Wei Chuan squid flavored crispy fish rolls: Ingredients include lizard fish, red mullet, Chilean giant squid, and mitre squid. Upon opening, the bag smells strongly of fish food (which is pretty cannibalistic if you think about it). While the packaging shows what appears to be mini yellow spring rolls, the squid flavored snack is actually brownish-red. Each piece is about the width of a cinnamon stick and had a hollow interior. It's thin and crispy and tastes like dried squid combined with fish sauce. A bit of heat. High in seasoning. 2.5/5.0

Bibgo Seaweed Crisps: I broke the first rule of purchasing snacks at an ethnic grocery store (buy products with the least amount of English). Still, Bibgo is a Seoul-based company, lending it some credibility. This snack is unique with its combination of normally soft seaweed with a crisp rice cracker backing. The chips are surprisingly sweet, and initially, I liked the snack a lot. The more I ate, though, the more the rice flavor dominated. I would have preferred better balance with more seaweed flavor. A bag ha... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Kong Kee unsweetened Soyadrink: Recently, I wrote about how American soy milk is far too sweet. On a recent trip to Hmart, I purchased Soyadrink, the one soy milk you will find at any Asian grocery store. Soyadrink is the drink to get to understand the sharp contrast between an Asian and American palate. First, the drink is thinner in viscosity and actually has a soybean-like aftertaste (think plain tofu). This light flavor nonetheless lingers on your palate long after drinking. Additionally, no one bothers to fortify thes... (read more) 3.0/5.0

CW mini sesame snack: Basic sesame flavored biscuit that's more sweet than savory, but remains fairly neutral nonetheless. I purchased an alternative version of this snack in the past that comes in a plastic container and has a long stick form factor (similar to Pocky). I recommend that version over this one for its convenient packaging, though they taste exactly the same. 3.0/5.0

Korean wheat flour crackers: When I saw this bag on the shelf, it reminded me sachima, a Chinese pastry composed of soft fried flour, butter, and sugar (and often raisins). I purchased this bag to see what the Korean version would taste like. Despite the nutrition facts, which state that this contains 0g of sugar, the snack is very sweet. (Also, sugar is one of only four listed ingredients). The crackers are dense and quite hard to bite into, a factor that could be an issue for anyone with dental problems. Some pieces a... Calbee Saya wasabi ranch peas: I grew up eating Calbee shrimp crackers, but this is the first time I've had any of their other products. I was intrigued by the east meets west flavor combining ranch and wasabi and found it works surprisingly well. The predominant flavor is wasabi, but it finishes with a slight tang and creaminess from the ranch. The packaging claims that they're a \"good-for-you\" snack alternative, but they're still pretty greasy, like other fried green bean snacks I've had. Still, this unique snack was ...
