Toad Bakery Currant Custard Pastry: I ate this pastry in November 2023 but am only just catching up and definitely wanted to make sure I wrote about this phenomenal bakery in South London. Toad Bakery is just blocks away from the University of Arts London Creative Computing Institute campus and has an assortment of breads, baked goods, and delicious lunch sandwiches. I could only imagine how lucky people are to be able to go to this bakery regularly. This custard pastry was on the sweet side, with caramelized sugar around it... (read more) 4.0/5.0

The black sesame has a sweet flavor, lacking some of the savoriness you would get in a true black sesame dessert, but satisfying as a sweet dessert. The texture is excellent and barely set, which I am especially impressed by for a packaged product. Worth trying! 3.5/5.0

The powdered sugar felt like an unnecessary flourish as the dessert was sweet enough without it, but the combination of donut, rich vanilla custard, and sharp and tangy strawberry was surprisingly delicious. The best part was definitely the vanilla custard, which was very smooth. 3.5/5.0

The stark black color comes from bamboo charcoal. Bao is fluffy and yielding. A not-too-sweet dessert for those who love coconut. Comes in a box containing two buns. 3.5/5.0

It’s the flavor of “pudding” add ins for your bubble tea, with a firmer texture than American pudding yet softer and creamier than Jello. This particular product is made in California and was purchased in Berkeley at Tokyo Fish Market. It represents a simple deliciousness - classic, but not average, with a layer of sweet dark caramel at its base. Small plastic spoons included. 3.5/5.0

During my last visit to this small Chinatown bakery, I tried the egg tart and pineapple bun, both of which were fairly standard as far as Asian bakeries go. The egg tart was firm and cold, a sign that it had been sitting out for some time. Still, the flavor was not bad but ordinary. The pineapple bun was a bit better, with a nice crispy crumble that was just the right level of sweetness. Overall... (read more) 3.0/5.0
