Kiki Bakery Baked Lucky Pudding: This Japanese-style cheesecake combines a milky pudding base, with a caramelized bottom, with a cheesecake top. Denser than expected, the cake nonetheless has a light eggy flavor. The combination of moist pudding with cake should combine the best of both worlds in theory, but here the pudding outshines the cake, which eats a bit dry. Purchased at a small Asian bakery called Kiki’s, with its own black cat mascot (a nod to the Ghibli film). 3.0/5.0

Glica Cafe Ore Purin: I've always loved Japanese purin, or custard pudding with a sweet caramel base. It has a very satisfying jiggle that's more set than American pudding but less bouncy than Jello. I had never tried the Glica coffee version, which is flavored after the beverage line Cafe Ore. it has a typical yet still robust coffee flavor; the roasted coffee taste does round out the typical sweetness of the pudding (though it is definitely still very sweet). Would purchase again! 3.5/5.0

Morinaga Mango Pudding Snack: This is another flavor of Morinaga pudding packs. They come in packs of three at the grocery store and are small pudding cups, about 2/3 the size of America ones. (To be fair, the 3-pack comes with smaller cups than the individually-sized pudding cups you can also buy, which are actually bigger than American ones). The mango one is extremely sweet and reminds me of mango-flavored gelatin snacks you get in those miniature squeeze packets from Chinese grocery stores (similar to the lychee g... Morinaga Annin Tofu: Morinaga is a common Japanese brand that can be found in the supermarket for all sorts of things, probably most popularly in the US for their Japanese instant pancake mix. Recently I've been trying their pudding sets, which are overall decent and affordable. This was their version of almond jello (called annin tofu, though it doesn't contain tofu but just resembles it in its look), the type you get in asian restaurants with canned fruit or goji berries. It has a familiar concentrated almo... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Meito Hokkaido Pumpkin Pudding: This is a pudding 3-pack from Japan, which is really more like flan or panna cotta compared to American pudding. It has a rich golden color from the pumpkin squash it's flavored from, which gives it a unique nutty flavor and takes away a bit of the guilt of eating dessert, though it's definitely sweet. It has a sweet syrupy caramel base, like traditional Japanese pudding you buy from the store. I liked it a lot, though, and would purchase it again! 3.5/5.0

Megmilk Snow Matcha Pudding: This is a delicious green tea pudding with a panna cotta-like texture (that is, much softer and looser than most store-bought pudding). It comes with a brown sugar packet so you can add as much sweetness as you'd like, but I preferred it without any additional flavoring. The matcha flavor is very distinctive, with its characteristic bitterness rounded out by the dessert's creaminess. Will definitely be purchasing again! 4.0/5.0
