Brooklyn Born Chocolate Cafe Au Lait: I'm a bit overwhelmed by the chocolate aisle at the Park Slope Food Coop, both because I generally don't buy chocolate, so there's a lot I haven't tried, and their selection seems much more varied than any other grocery store I've been to. This bar is actually prepared in Rahway, NJ, despite the Brooklyn Bridge logo and brand name suggesting otherwise. Wiklow Orchards Apple Cider: Got this half gallon of apple cider from the Brooklyn Green Market. At $6, it's not inexpensive, but it has a comforting sweet and spiced apple flavor that's so iconic of fall on the east coast, you'll convince yourself it's worthwhile--at least I did. 4.0/5.0

The New Primal Ginger and honey turkey jerky: Purchased at the Park Slope Coop, this turkey jerky has a strangely sweet ginger flavor, more like a meat-flavored ginger chew candy than ginger-honey-flavored meat. Texture wise, it has a chewy consistency with a slightly glazed exterior. Ginger and honey could work well in other contexts, but the overall impact of this snack is off balance and too reminiscent of tea I might drink when recovering from a cold. 3.0/5.0

Fong On Sweetened soy milk: I really love Asian soy milk, so I was looking forward to this housemade bottle from Fong On in Chinatown. The 16oz bottle cost a little over $2. I purchased the sweetened version, which tasted just like the soy milk you buy from street vendors in Taiwan; beany but loose in viscocity, very sweet but also thirst quenching. Overall, I liked it, but it was definitely on the sweet side - not something I could drink in a single serving. 3.0/5.0
