Tao Kae Noi Sriracha chili sauce flavored crispy seaweed: While the packaging features a mascot that can't take the heat, I was surprised to find this snack lacked any punch. I don't have a high spice tolerance, yet I wouldn't characterize this snack as spicy at all. If I didn't know it was supposed to taste like Sriracha, I would have guessed a sweet chili flavor rather than a spicy one. The seaweed also was not very crispy compared to other times I've had this snack. I'm not sure if I got a dud, but this product was disappointing overall. 2.0/5.0

Upon tasting, though, I'm impressed with how closely they were able to match a distinctively meaty snack. The cracklings don't melt in your mouth the way fatty chicharons do, but the aggressive salt and vinegar flavor combined with a crunchy, textured cracker bears a passing resemblance. There is no way a vegetarian designed this snack. While the packaging ha... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Upon opening, the bag smells strongly of fish food (which is pretty cannibalistic if you think about it). While the packaging shows what appears to be mini yellow spring rolls, the squid flavored snack is actually brownish-red. Each piece is about the width of a cinnamon stick and had a hollow interior. It's thin and crispy and tastes like dried squid combined with fish sauce. A bit of heat. High in seasoning. 2.5/5.0

Still, Bibgo is a Seoul-based company, lending it some credibility. This snack is unique with its combination of normally soft seaweed with a crisp rice cracker backing. The chips are surprisingly sweet, and initially, I liked the snack a lot. The more I ate, though, the more the rice flavor dominated. I would have preferred better balance with more seaweed flavor. On a recent trip to Hmart, I purchased Soyadrink, the one soy milk you will find at any Asian grocery store. Soyadrink is the drink to get to understand the sharp contrast between an Asian and American palate. First, the drink is thinner in viscosity and actually has a soybean-like aftertaste (think plain tofu). This light flavor nonetheless lingers on your palate long after drinking. Additionally, no one bothers to fortify thes... (read more) 3.0/5.0
