Calbee Saya wasabi ranch peas: I grew up eating Calbee shrimp crackers, but this is the first time I've had any of their other products. I was intrigued by the east meets west flavor combining ranch and wasabi and found it works surprisingly well. The predominant flavor is wasabi, but it finishes with a slight tang and creaminess from the ranch. The packaging claims that they're a \"good-for-you\" snack alternative, but they're still pretty greasy, like other fried green bean snacks I've had. Still, this unique snack was ... Happy Lemon passion fruit green tea with lychee jelly: My love for this chain brought me to the deep abyss of the Downtown Crossing Corner Mall food court, a ragbag of fast food joints including the likes of Subway, Dunkin Donuts, and suspect Asian fare. As I navigated through the bleak aroma of fried teriyaki, the bright yellow Happy Lemon sign materialized like a beacon of hope. The counter had several dentist-sized cups filled with a Yakult-flavored drink with aloe; the sampling was overly sweet, but I attributed this mostly to the Yakult pro... (read more) 2.5/5.0

Perky Jerky original turkey jerky: A solid jerky snack with moist pieces of marinated turkey. On the sweet side overall, though it's balanced out to an extent by cracked black pepper. Each bag has 2 servings, making it a relatively pricy snack at almost $5 a bag. Still, it's high protein content makes it more filling than other savory alternatives from the Leanbox. 3.5/5.0

Way Better Snacks pumpkin cranberry tortilla chips: I found this out-of-season bag of chips heavily discounted at my local supermarket. The chips need...something. They are neither here nor there-not sweet enough or savory enough to be satisfying. I also find them very underseasoned, and I already prefer lightly seasoned food. Definitely begging to be eaten with some sort of dip, though what could complement this odd flavor combination is beyond me. The chips themselves have an unappetizing dark purple hue. Bottom line: Not a success. 1.5/5.0

Chimei red bean buns: Made in Taiwan, these frozen buns are light in sugar, at 3g per bun. Once they are steamed past a particular threshold (㸐 minutes), though, the dough tightens up, wrinkling and hardening almost like it was under a vacuum. If anyone knows scientifically what causes this phenomena, I'd very much like to know. That is the most interesting thing about this frozen product, which is pretty average flavor-wise. 2.5/5.0

Simsek Cikolatali Gofret: Turkish wafer chocolate bar from my latest Munchpak. The wafer is reminiscent of Joy ice cream cones: flaky styrofoam devoid of flavor. A thin layer of milk chocolate with a waxy mouthfeel coats. 1.5/5.0
