Hontaka Ecorce : This Japanese line of cookies was first established in 1887 and is available in giftstores all around Japan. According to their website (translated to English via Google Translate), the cookie is made of just a few simple ingredients: flour, sugar, oil and fat, and eggs. What makes it unique is the thin and flaky layers, which are almost like a cross between a crepe and mille-feuille (though it's completely dry). Its buttery taste and precisely thin layers, along with its thoughtful packagin... (read more) 4.5/5.0

Corn Potage Umaibo: I received this Japanese snack in my latest #munchpak and found the Doraemon-like character and nonchalant boiling corn intriguing. Inside the packaging is a thick, cylindrical tube of puffed corn dusted with a savory coating not unlike that which you might find on sour cream and onion chips. Ito En Oi Ocha unsweetened green tea: A favorite at sushi restaurants, this bottled green tea drink is refreshing and thirst quenching, especially when chilled. The packaging says Japan's #1 green tea brand, but closer inspection reveals this product is made in Taiwan. A classic and pure tea product. 4.0/5.0

KitKat Wasabi: An import from Japan, this KitKat has a (overly sweet) white chocolate exterior covering a wasabi-cream wafer. The spicy flavor is surprisingly palatable, but the white chocolate dominates. 2.0/5.0

Ginza Tokyo Sugar Butter Sand Tree cookies: Japanese sandwich cookies with a dense, crunchy exterior (somewhat flaky when you bite through it) and a cloyingly sweet icing in the middle reminiscent of cereal milk. Nice packaging, but disappointing flavor. 2.5/5.0
