Biena Rockin' Ranch Chickpea Snacks: An unlikely combination of fried chickpeas and ranch that works remarkably well, though I'm convinced that almost anything could be made tasty with the tangy and zesty ranch seasoning. The addictive coating is a cross between sour cream and onion and ranch dressing, making it bolder than your typical ranch snack. Adds great texture to salads but is also addictive straight out of the bag (though a bit messy to eat). 3.5/5.0

Bitsy's Brainfood Sweet potato oatmeal raisin cookies: I was a fan of the zucchini gingerbread carrot cookies I previously purchased from this brand, so I decided to try another flavor from their line. The alphabet-shaped cookies are crunchy and dense and have a pleasantly spiced, lightly sweetened flavor, with just a hint of vegetable at the end. No whole raisins to be found - the ingredients appear to be ground into the same mix. Suspiciously, these cookies were a very similar shade of brown as the zucchini gingerbread carrot ones and also had... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Galil Roasted chestnuts: Part of a larger trend of packaging vegetables-as-snacks (e.g., fried snap peas, roasted seaweed, apple crisps), these roasted chestnuts have a slick coating that make you want to eat them with a utensil, ultimately taking away from the convenience of having it in a packable pouch. Otherwise, it’s largely not-messed-around-with. 3.0/5.0

Golden Steamer Big Bun with chicken, vegetables, and egg: Served in a scaldingly hot waxed bakery takeaway bag, the big bun from NYC Chinatown’s Golden Steamer takes several minutes to cool down before before consumption. Inside a fluffy and supple steamed white bun is a mixture of savory chicken, pickled mustard greens, and sliced hard-boiled egg. The lightly sweetened bun mixed with the meaty hearty filling, which steam has congealed into an almost meatball-like texture, is hard to beat at $1.25. 4.5/5.0

Hardbite Eat Your Parsnips Lightly-Salted Parsnip Chips: These are literally strips of parsnip that have been cooked in avocado oil and lightly seasoned. Thin and crispy, golden brown (some a little on the darker side, giving it a slightly bitter, burnt flavor), they taste like portable root vegetables and have the distinct sweetness you'd expect from parsnip. I personally like parsnips a lot, but I don't see myself purchasing these again because they were pretty pricy (close to $5 a bag), and I think I still just prefer baked parsnips (not frie... il laboratorio del gelato carrot and beet gelato: I'm all for vegetable-flavored desserts, and given how naturally sweet carrots and beets can be, I was especially excited to try il laboratorio's take. Both flavors were very true to their roots, tasting more fresh than sweet. In particular, the carrot was especially concentrated, tasting of the initial crisp bite of a raw carrot. If I had to choose one, I would go back for the carrot, but the beet was still delicious though milder. Both scoops were not entirely smooth, so the texture co... (read more) 4.0/5.0
