Wanpo Tea Shop Black Rice & Taro with Coconut Milk: This is my second time getting a drink from this Taiwanese bubble tea shop, this time at their Shibuya location. Both times, the employees seemed to identify that I was Chinese and spoke to me in Mandarin, but I could barely cobble enough Chinese together to say that I didn't want the drink to be too sweet. This particular drink is almost like eating a dessert rather than a drink, containing more solid ingredients than liquid and reminding me of eating Taiwanese shaved ice, with its mix of... Yomie's Rice Yogurt Haw Purple Rice Yogurt: This shop features a drink menu dominantly in Chinese, with a sprinkling of English just so you know how to order. They make yogurt drinks that verge on porridge territory, with a thick consistency that you can just manage to consume from a straw. Their most popular drink is purple rice yogurt, but I opted for the haw flavor, a popular berry used in Asian desserts. Made to order, it took about 10 minutes to arrive in a boba-tea-like plastic packaging with a sealed off top you puncture wit... (read more) 2.5/5.0

Sejun rice drink: A korean rice drink called Shikae, which consists of cooked rice, sugar, and malt. The drink itself tastes like honey water and is very sweet. I drink it diluted with equal parts water. Mixed with the drink are grains of rice, which take on a strange gummy texture from being steeped in the drink. 2.0/5.0

Jinga rice wine cake: Korean rice flour "cake" that had a glutinous yet spongy texture. Traditionally called jeungpyeon, it is similar in flavor to sake-steamed glutinous rice desserts you might have in Taiwan. Unfortunately, this version is dry and difficult to eat, and the flavor is one dimensional. 1.5/5.0

Kozy Shack Rice Pudding: After my good experience with carrot cake at the hospital, I ordered dessert again for lunch. This time, I ordered rice pudding only to find it was a pre-packaged Kozy Shack, which probably shouldn't have come as a surprise. Nonetheless, I think this may be the first time I've had Kozy Shack pudding, which I know is a lunchbox staple but wasn't in my household. The texture of the rice was very soft and gloopy, and the vanilla-flavored pudding was far too sweet. Would not eat again. 1.5/5.0
