Lay's Spanish tomato tango chips: These chips were brought back from India, where the flavor names are prefaced by the country with which they're inspired from. The chips were distinct from standard Lay's, with a ridged texture; the flavor can be described as a robust ketchup with underlying spices that give it depth. What they have to do with Spain I have no idea, but overall, this was a surprisingly memorable snack. 3.5/5.0

It reminds me of some of the delicious fried potato straws I've had from Indian grocery stores. The flavor has heat but is more spiced than spicy. 3.0/5.0

Akin to a sweet teriyaki glaze. I especially liked the texture of the ridges, whose valleys and mountains are about 3x as deep as Ruffles. Worth a try if you're into seafood flavored snacks. 3.5/5.0

Unlike the classic crispy, transluscently-thin Lay's potato chips, these are very much in the style of Pringles, though slightly smaller. They surprisingly come packed in a pull-out plastic tray (so you don't have to dig for the chips at the bottom, I suppose). I purchased them from Uwajimaya (the Japanese grocery chain in the PNW), though these are Chinese. The roasted seaweed flavor has a really satisfying savory sweet flavor and... (read more) 4.0/5.0

These cucumber-flavored chips were purchased at an Asian grocery store and originate from China. Perhaps this is unsurprising, as crushed cucumbers, flavored with salt and vinegar, are a perennial side dish in Chinese restaurants. These chips are both savory and sweet, with a remarkably true-to-name flavor. They taste more vegetal than sal... (read more) 4.0/5.0

With their high fat content and sparse serving size, chips are kind of the worst snack you could eat, even though they tend not to be highly processed. Because of these reasons, I rarely buy a bag of potato chips. But these salt and vinegar potato chips were on sale at Berkeley Bowl, so I succumbed and found a remarkably tangy potato chip worth trying. These chips are smaller and crunchier than normal (they're kettle cooked), and they are s... (read more) 3.5/5.0
