Annie's Organic Grabbits Chocolate Sandwich Cookies: Like many of Annie's products, it's obvious what major-brand staple they're directly posing as an alternative for, but they do it well and with integrity. Clearly these are inspired by Oreos, but meant for parents who care enough to spend a few more dollars on sandwich cookies that contain no artificial flavors, synthetic colors, or high-fructose corn syrup. In the end, they taste slightly better but are much better for you (though at the end of the day, they're still snacks). 3.5/5.0

Beanitos Nacho Nation white bean chips: Made with Great Northern beans and flavored with cheddar cheese and seasonings like onion, garlic, buttermilk, and tomato powder, these tortilla chips have a surprisingly well-rounded nacho cheese flavor--a little bit of heat and zest, while still maintaining the fundamentally satisfying cheesy flavor. Worth a try if you like tortilla chips that taste a little different but still comfortingly familiar. 3.5/5.0

Brooklyn Born Chocolate Cafe Au Lait: I'm a bit overwhelmed by the chocolate aisle at the Park Slope Food Coop, both because I generally don't buy chocolate, so there's a lot I haven't tried, and their selection seems much more varied than any other grocery store I've been to. This bar is actually prepared in Rahway, NJ, despite the Brooklyn Bridge logo and brand name suggesting otherwise. It's made of white chocolate that's been dyed to look like regular milk chocolate, and it has a nice roasted coffee flavor. You can tell t... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Brooklyn Born Chocolate Salted Peanut milk chocolate peanut praline: I bought another chocolate bar from Brooklyn Born Chocolate. This one is a milk chocolate bar with bits of peanut and crunchy toasted rice throughout. It reminded me of a slightly elevated version of a Girls Scouts Tagalong cookie, without the biscuit base but with a similar chocolate peanut butter flavor. Slightly salted. Purchased from the Park Slope Food Coop. 3.5/5.0

Clio Strawberry Greek Yogurt Bar: This is a really intriguing take on a chocolate bar alternative, consisting of a solid strawberry-flavored greek yogurt filling (its texture set somewhere between nougat and frozen yogurt as its refrigerated, but not frozen) coated with a thin shell of chocolate. Though it's fairly high in saturated fat (6g), it's overall healthier than a normal chocolate bar, with less sugar (10g sugar) and an impressive amount of nutrients (8g of protein, and over 100% of your daily recommended Vitamin C)... Clio Hazelnut Greek yogurt bar: Bought a second flavor of this yogurt dessert bar from Clio at the Park Slope Food Coop. The first one I tried was a chocolate covered strawberry treat, whose tartness I was impressed by. I was less impressed by this hazelnut flavored bar, mostly because it had less of a distinctive flavor (reminding me of a tart version of the noguat in a Milky Way candy bar, but texturally more set) and the interior ate very dry so that drinking a glass of milk on the side feels like a necessity.
