Core Bar Lemon poppy seed overnight oat bar: A granola bar you purchase from the refrigerated section, this surprisingly fresh take falls somewhere between a traditional granola bar and a Power Bar in texture. Oats, dates, chia seeds, and almonds are loosely combined to form a chewy bar that eats more like a breakfast bar or cookie than a more dense bar like a Cliff Bar or Luna Bar. It also contains probiotics and 7g of fiber, along with 0 added sugar (it has 9g of natural sugar, which feels just right). The tart lemon flavor was al... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Clio Honey Greek Yogurt Bar: I've tried two other flavors of this chocolate-coated yogurt bar (hazelnut and strawberry), and this honey-flavored one falls squarely between the two in ranking. The interior of the yogurt bar is set, almost nougat-like in texture, and tastes vaguely of caramel-like. It's the closest to a candy-bar in overall flavor and texture, with its thin dark chocolate shell that easily cracks when you bite into it. I recommend this one and the strawberry flavor (which is still my favorite). Purchas... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Clio Hazelnut Greek yogurt bar: Bought a second flavor of this yogurt dessert bar from Clio at the Park Slope Food Coop. The first one I tried was a chocolate covered strawberry treat, whose tartness I was impressed by. I was less impressed by this hazelnut flavored bar, mostly because it had less of a distinctive flavor (reminding me of a tart version of the noguat in a Milky Way candy bar, but texturally more set) and the interior ate very dry so that drinking a glass of milk on the side feels like a necessity. Like the ... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Clio Strawberry Greek Yogurt Bar: This is a really intriguing take on a chocolate bar alternative, consisting of a solid strawberry-flavored greek yogurt filling (its texture set somewhere between nougat and frozen yogurt as its refrigerated, but not frozen) coated with a thin shell of chocolate. Though it's fairly high in saturated fat (6g), it's overall healthier than a normal chocolate bar, with less sugar (10g sugar) and an impressive amount of nutrients (8g of protein, and over 100% of your daily recommended Vitamin C)... Morgenstern's x Repeller Tomato Gazpachoo Ice Cream Bar: Slightly larger than a stick of butter, this special edition ice cream bar from NYC-based shop Morgenstern's consists of gazpacho flavored ice cream coated in a thin tomato-flavored shell. The shell is softer than your regular chocolate dip because of its high fat content (it's made of cocoa butter and coconut oil), so the coating dissolves on the tongue quickly, exposing the fantastic combination of tomato, cucumber, and lemon that make up the ice cream filling. The dessert on the whole b... (read more) 4.5/5.0

The Doughnut Project Hotteok Jeju Noodle Bar Donut: I got this donut exactly a week ago on the last day it was available from The Donut Project in the West Village (sorry for the delay in posting!). I had only ever had Hotteok once from a boxed mix from HMart, and not surprisingly, this donut interpretation from Korean ramen noodle shop Jeju Noodle Bar was much better. The dough had a great consistency, with a crisp griddled-like exterior and soft interior filled with a sweet crushed peanuts mix. Topped with a berry-jelly syrup and pistach... (read more) 3.5/5.0
