Ginza Tokyo Sugar Butter Sand Tree cookies: Japanese sandwich cookies with a dense, crunchy exterior (somewhat flaky when you bite through it) and a cloyingly sweet icing in the middle reminiscent of cereal milk. Nice packaging, but disappointing flavor. 2.5/5.0

Trader Joe's gluten-free Joe-Joe's: Generally, I don't purchase gluten-free snacks since I don't have any special dietary needs. This box of Trader Joe's alternative Oreos was purchased for a lab event, so I only sampled a few cookies. The texture of the cookie wasn't significantly different than gluten-full chocolate cookies, though it was slightly more crumbly. I did like how the cookies overall weren't overly sweet. Overall, a decent snack, though I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase them. 3.0/5.0

Trader Joe's triple ginger cookie thins: I really like these cookies. They have an unapologetic ginger flavor, and the texture is slightly crispy. They have a better ginger flavor than Anna's Swedish cookies, and they still have a satisfying bite without the thickness of normal ginger snaps. Highly recommended. 4.0/5.0

Meiji Pucca: Fish-shaped biscuits filled with milk chocolate. The most obvious comparison would be to Lotte's koala cookies, which I find to be better overall; the Pucca cookies don't have much flavor, and they lack the charm of the uniquely printed koala snacks. 2.0/5.0

Canasta Guava cookies: From Costa Rica, this packet contained four miniature shortbread cookies with a guava jam center. The shortbread was so-so, the jam interior sweet, tropical, and chewy. Not too much to say about these cookies, positive or negative. 2.5/5.0

Jennies coconut macaroons: What drew me to this snack was the old school packaging and very simple list of ingredients. The macaroons come in a cardboard "can" with no visible expiration date. Inside are very moist cookies that taste homemade. They are extremely sweet and definitely the type of snack your dentist would not approve of. But they are also very tasty, which I approve of. Also (and this does not factor into the score at all), I assumed Jennie was a woman, but it turns out he is the original hipster. Check ... (read more) 4.0/5.0
