18 Rabbits Organic Peanut, Almond and Coconut Gracious Granola: There's a game I like to play at Berkeley Bowl that I call "Is it worth it?" Is that bag of cheese puffs so good to warrant $5 a bag? Is that bag of Granola actually worth $7? That's the question I asked when I purchased this San Francisco-based brand of granola that contains oats, almonds and pecans, and pumpkin seeds and is flavored with maple syrup and coconut. It isn't too sweet, but it has a rich, buttery flavor (and the fat content to prove it). Opening the bag releases a fragrant c... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Akai Bonshi Coconut Choco Sand Cookies: When I first came to Japan, I was surprised to always see the word "Sand" on cookie products but realized that "sand cookies" are a basic type of thin cookie somewhere between shortbread and sugar. This bag contained three varieties of sandwich cookies: pineapple, mango, and banana, which have different creme fillings. They're all pleasantly tropical and are equally sweet and rich, with a toasted coconut coating. Purchased at Queens Isetan grocery store in Tokyo. 3.5/5.0

Bao Tea House Lava Bao: Baked buns with a crumbly, buttery coating similar in texture to pineapple buns, filled with an egg coconut custard. The stark black color comes from bamboo charcoal. Bao is fluffy and yielding. A not-too-sweet dessert for those who love coconut. Comes in a box containing two buns. 3.5/5.0

Berkeley Bowl Coconut Fig Organic Chunks of Energy: Purchased from the bulk section at Berkeley Bowl, the "organic chunks of energy" are dense cubes consisting of ground figs, oats, and nuts (almonds, I believe) with a strong coconut flavor. I brought them to work with me to see how effective they would be at helping me get through my post-lunch pre-dinner hunger pangs. I did notice that my stomach growled less and that I seemed to be able to focus better – and the box lasted me over a week, which I believe is enough time to work again any ... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Berkeley Bowl Coconut mango pomegranate organic chews: Power bites are the new granola bar. These soft chewy energy bites combine dried fruit, oats, and nuts - an ultra-portable trail mix. Coconut and mango add a tropical flavor while pomegranate provides a tartness that cuts through some of the richness. While they are super tasty, I don't find them to be very filling. If you have good portion control, you'll likely enjoy this treat. 4.0/5.0
