Hidden Garden Ginger Snap Cookies with Butternut Squash: One of the major downsides of trying so many types of snacks is that when you hit a dud, you're stuck with an entire bag, which also stands in your way of trying new snacks until you finish it. These gluten-free cookies are quite frankly one of the worst snacks I've had all year. When you open the bag, you're hit with a strong scent of butter, which also dominates the taste. There's also a prominent sweet molasses flavor but very little ginger or butternut squash. I love the mellow sweet... (read more) 1.5/5.0

Uji Mochi Ice Cream: Offering over 12 different mochi ice cream flavors, Uji in Berkeley is taking a unique spin on this classic Japanese dessert. They take it very seriously, serving their mochi with bamboo sticks that are meant to be used to prod the mochi, ensuring that it's soft enough to eat. After ten minutes of waiting, though, I got impatient and held the container in my hand to try to bring the mochi down in temperature quicker. Cheeseboard Ginger Molasses Cookie: One of the seasonal baked goods available at the Berkeley pizza shop Cheeseboard, the ginger molasses cookie is a mostly chewy cookie with candied ginger scattered throughout and a pleasantly spiced flavor. Not particularly spicy or potent. It's certainly better than most store-bought cookies, but it isn't above average for fresh-baked goods. 3.0/5.0

by CHLOE cranberry ginger lemonade: This housemade lemonade from Veggie favorite by CHLOE perfectly captures Thanksgiving in a cup. The cranberry was tart and vividly colored, and the ginger was satisfyingly potent, and the lemonade flavor is acidic but not overpowering. The drink had a bit of pulp, making it feel almost like a smoothie. Among the best of the drinks I've had this year. 4.0/5.0

Seabold Ginger Beer: When in LA, you may stumble across a glass bottle of ginger beer with a hand-written expiration date less than a month away. It feels hefty, matching its $7.50 price tag, with a misty yellow hue. Its packaging instructs you to invert and gently mix, enabling the ginger sediments disperse throughout. The drink is balanced – not too sweet with a good dose of lemon juice and a decent level of spice that fades as quickly as it arrives. It's not quite as good as the absolute best ginger beer ... Newman's Own Ginger Hermits: These soft cookies are remarkably like Fig Newtons, with the same rectangular shape and dried fruit (raisins) throughout. While spiced like a holiday cookie, there is little ginger flavoring I could discern. Decently filling and moist, with a chewy texture. 3.0/5.0
