Satie Chocolaterie Koi no Teppoudama Chocolates: Translated as "Love's Tadpole" via Google Translate (though I doubt that's accurate), these earplug-shaped chocolates from Japan are much tastier than they look. The pieces are dusted in cocoa powder and begin to melt instantly on the tongue, with an exceptionally creamy and rich flavor. Sevan Walnut Baklava: To accompany my previously reviewed soda, I purchased a walnut-flavored pastry from Sevan Bakery in Watertown. I usually find baklava to be overly sweet, and this one did have a very distinct honey flavor, but the pastry was exceptionally crisp and flaky, and the chopped walnuts balanced the sweetness of the dessert. Shake Shack Hanukoncrete: This special edition custard from the Shake Shack is available until December 14th and consists of vanilla custard, pieces of donut from The Doughnut Project, and a strawberry syrup, all topped with powdered sugar. The powdered sugar felt like an unnecessary flourish as the dessert was sweet enough without it, but the combination of donut, rich vanilla custard, and sharp and tangy strawberry was surprisingly delicious. The best part was definitely the vanilla custard, which was very smooth. 3.5/5.0

Snowdays Ube shaved ice: Taiwanese shaved ice in a classic ube flavor is true to the sweet, earthy flavor of the vegetable. Texture is close to snow - fluffy and light, yet a bit more dense and clumped together at the bottom of the large cup, even for the smallest possible size. Purchased from the East Village location of chain Snowdays. 3.0/5.0

Sofra Baklava: To be fair, I ate this pastry after it had been sitting out for about an hour or so. Even so, I was shocked by how sickeningly sweet the honey was, which you can see seeping from the edges of the pastry. The one saving grace was the pistachios, which were slightly candied and very good. Otherwise, I would pass on this dessert. 2.5/5.0

Spring Home peanut flavored glutinous rice balls: Small, frozen rice balls with a peanut filling consisting of a thick paste and bits of peanuts. The texture of the peanut filling is not very good, and it gets stuck in your teeth. Not too sweet (contains 4g of sugar per serving). 2.5/5.0
