The Doughnut Project Hotteok Jeju Noodle Bar Donut: I got this donut exactly a week ago on the last day it was available from The Donut Project in the West Village (sorry for the delay in posting!). I had only ever had Hotteok once from a boxed mix from HMart, and not surprisingly, this donut interpretation from Korean ramen noodle shop Jeju Noodle Bar was much better. Berkeley Bowl Bar snack mix: The Berkeley Bowl bulk snack mixes are generally good, but this standard bar mix with cheddar crackers, pretzels, peanuts, and almonds is not really better than the sum of its ingredients. None of the flavors compete, but it’s not particularly interesting, and there are much better alternatives. 3.0/5.0

Go Raw Raisin Crunch Sprouted Bar: I've been especially conscious of the amount of carbs in snacks I'm eating lately, and with 32g of carbs, this bar alone exceeds most low-carb diets. That could be ok, if the snack is excellent, but this bar fails on multiple levels. It verges on no flavor, with a bland combination of seeds (sesame, flaxseed, and sunflower). Kind Pomegranate Blueberry Pistachhio bar: Kind bars have a consistent quality - once you’ve had one, you know what you’re getting yourself into. Here, we have a mix of crunchy whole pistachio and almonds with dried fruit, all bonded together with a sticky glaze and several types of grains for texture. It was a bit hard to bite into (more crunchy than chewy), which made me a little nervous for my teeth. Overall, decent but doesn’t quite pass the threshold for recommended. 3.0/5.0

Larabar Cashew Cooki Bar: Containing two ingredients (dates and cashews) this minimalist bar had a soft texture somewhere between a cookie and an energy bar. I found the flavor to be off, not because it was either too sweet or savory, since the flavors together simply did not taste particularly good. This is the first time I’ve had a Larabar, and given the experience, probably the last. 2.0/5.0

Sprouted Go Raw Banana Bread Sprouted Bar: Recently, my office has started getting free snacks / advertising from various organic energy bar companies. This one from Sprouted contains four ingredients: flaxseed, banana, coconut, and dates. It appears sizable but is in fact very thin, perhaps giving off an illusion of substance or value.
