Ruffles Sabor a jamon potato chips: Purchased from a vending machine at the Madrid airport duurng a layover, these ham-flavored potato chips look like regular Ruffles, with an invisible but potently salty seasoning. Texturally, the chips are just like any other Ruffles; ridged, crispy, and more thickly cut than Lay's. But they tasted unlike any other flavor I've had: meaty and slightly smoked, but mostly tasting of MSG. Similar in intensity to ramen packet seasoning. 3.0/5.0

Taco Bell Doritos Gordita crunch: Hard shell nacho cheese Doritos taco wrapped in a flour tortilla. Topped with sour cream, lettuce, and shredded cheddar cheese. Texture of beef makes it difficult to know if you're eating refried beans or ground meat. Flavor is instantly familiar and incredibly satisfying. May shorten lifespan but is worth it for a few minutes of guilty pleasure. 4.0/5.0

YBC Aerial Roe Butter Flavored Chips: It is very rare for me to come across a snack that is fundamentally different than any I've had before, and this fried Japanese corn snack is one of them. I found it at Weica, sort of like a CVS, which has an impressive stock of junk food. These chips consist of multiple crispy layers, each uniquely shaped probably due to the irregularity of the manufacturing process. Each square is about the size of a Wheat Thin in area. The separated layers gives it a light crispy texture unlike any sn... (read more) 4.0/5.0

YBC Aerial Cheddar Flavored Chips: I really like the texture of these light and crispy chips from Japanese junk-food manufacturer YBC. They consist of nugget-shaped chips that are multi-layered and irregularly shaped, giving it a very unique texture. The cheddar flavored ones have a milky and creamy flavor that is common among cheddar-flavored Asian snacks, which is less salty and sharp than American cheddar-flavored snacks. Overall, I still like it for the texture but prefer the roe-flavored chips I previously reviewed. 3.5/5.0

YBC Garlic Steak Chips: Aerial is a junk food staple in Japan consisting of layered fried corn pieces with a crispy and light texture. The underlying fried corn flavor reminds me a lot of Bugles (which also have their Japanese equivalent in a snack called Tongari Corn), but the texture of Aerials is much more fun. This particular bag inspired by garlic steak is smoky and has an intense garlic flavor, the type that leaves an aftertaste so strong that I was a little thankful I've been working / snacking in isolatio... Yotchan Cuttlefish Snack: Bought this at a 7-11 on my way home mostly because of the packaging. I didn't bother translating anything about it in advance, so I was in for a surprise. Let me cut to the verdict: this is a truly awful snack. It tastes like white vinegar and salt and has a chewy yet stale texture like Bubble Tape that's been sitting around since the 90s. I gathered from the package that it was a squid snack, and I still think it probably is: little white squares of awful processed cuttlefish. At least it ... (read more) 0.5/5.0
