Taveners Jelly babies: Since 1904, brits have been able to satisfy their cannibalistic desires with Taveners jelly babies. These gummy candies have a unique frosted coating; biting through it reveals a softer, slightly sticky interior that’s very sweet with classic fruit flavors (simply described as “flavorings” in the ingredients). Good in small quantities. 3.0/5.0

Hanco's Honey Green Tea with Lychee Jelly: I'm not homesick per se, but I do find myself frequently sad about the lack of good bubble tea options in NYC. I think I had 5 different bubble tea stamp cards in the bay area, and I only have one for NYC, at a bubble tea shop that closes at 8pm during the week (Mr. Wish). Given that most of my bubble tea purchases in Berkeley or SF were late night impulses, I don't get to drink much of it here. Hanco's, a Vietnamese sandwich shop close to me, has pretty bad boba from my previous experie... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Pokka Sapporo Ribbon Jelly Grape Drink: This is another grape jelly drink I purchased from a vending machine. It comes in a plastic bottle as opposed to a can. I like this one less than the other as the jelly is not carbonated, so the overall taste is not as unique. It's essentially a grape juice for kids that contains jelly that you break up by shaking the bottle. One benefit the plastic bottle has over the can, though, is that you can reclose and shake the bottle some more in the case that the jelly doesn't break up evenly. 3.0/5.0

Lotte Yogurt Jelly: These are the Yakult-style gummy equivalent to Haribo cola gummies. They come in small snack-size packaging that contains about ~2 servings. Each gummy is shaped like the squat yogurt-drinks many asian kids had growing up. Definitely on the sweet side, but pretty true to the flavor of Yakult. 3.0/5.0

Wei-Chuan red bean and jelly popsicle: Icy bar studded with red beans and slivers of green jelly. Jelly adds an intriguing texture but is mostly flavorless. Pop as a whole is in the sweet side. 2.5/5.0

Happy Lemon passion fruit green tea with lychee jelly: My love for this chain brought me to the deep abyss of the Downtown Crossing Corner Mall food court, a ragbag of fast food joints including the likes of Subway, Dunkin Donuts, and suspect Asian fare. As I navigated through the bleak aroma of fried teriyaki, the bright yellow Happy Lemon sign materialized like a beacon of hope. The counter had several dentist-sized cups filled with a Yakult-flavored drink with aloe; the sampling was overly sweet, but I attributed this mostly to the Yakult pro... (read more) 2.5/5.0
