Bonchi Ponsuke Nori-Aji: One of my favorite things about Asian snacks is the combination of sweet and savory. These substantially-sized wheat crackers have a sweet, soy-like glaze with speckles of nori. Balance is very good. Texture is similar to a rice cracker, but slightly more dense. Very addicting. Calbee Saya wasabi ranch peas: I grew up eating Calbee shrimp crackers, but this is the first time I've had any of their other products. I was intrigued by the east meets west flavor combining ranch and wasabi and found it works surprisingly well. The predominant flavor is wasabi, but it finishes with a slight tang and creaminess from the ranch. Chimei red bean buns: Made in Taiwan, these frozen buns are light in sugar, at 3g per bun. Once they are steamed past a particular threshold (㸐 minutes), though, the dough tightens up, wrinkling and hardening almost like it was under a vacuum. If anyone knows scientifically what causes this phenomena, I'd very much like to know. That is the most interesting thing about this frozen product, which is pretty average flavor-wise. 2.5/5.0
