Trader Joe's Mini Dark Chocolate Mint Coins: About 3/4 of the size of a Girl Scout's Thin Mint, TJ's mini version is black on black, with a mint chocolate cookie covered in dark chocolate. It tastes exactly as you would expect it to, which isn't too different than a Thin Mint, just slightly thinner and with less of a chocolate coating. In other words, neither good nor bad. 3.0/5.0

Clio Hazelnut Greek yogurt bar: Bought a second flavor of this yogurt dessert bar from Clio at the Park Slope Food Coop. The first one I tried was a chocolate covered strawberry treat, whose tartness I was impressed by. I was less impressed by this hazelnut flavored bar, mostly because it had less of a distinctive flavor (reminding me of a tart version of the noguat in a Milky Way candy bar, but texturally more set) and the interior ate very dry so that drinking a glass of milk on the side feels like a necessity. Like the ... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Brooklyn Born Chocolate Cafe Au Lait: I'm a bit overwhelmed by the chocolate aisle at the Park Slope Food Coop, both because I generally don't buy chocolate, so there's a lot I haven't tried, and their selection seems much more varied than any other grocery store I've been to. This bar is actually prepared in Rahway, NJ, despite the Brooklyn Bridge logo and brand name suggesting otherwise. It's made of white chocolate that's been dyed to look like regular milk chocolate, and it has a nice roasted coffee flavor. You can tell t... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Raaka Oat Milk Dark Chocolate: I've been buying chocolate bars once in a while during my weekly grocery trips to the Park Slope Food Coop. This one from Raaka checks all the boxes in terms of guilt-free snack purchases (organic, single-origin, etc.), with the inside label covered in facts about where the chocolate comes from and how much it costs to produce. The packaging waxes on about using unroasted beans as a way to bring out the "brighter, bolder, and fruitier side of cacao." This particular flavor is described as... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Mont Thabor Chocolate Croissant: The best and most popular baked item from this shop is their Hokkaido milk bread, a pastry that can easily serve 2/3 people and consists of a fluffy baked bread with a sweet crumble coating. I had purchased it once but seemingly didn't photograph it, so here's a another item I purchased from the bakery instead. This is a chocolate croissant, shaped like a cornucopia, that has both a chocolate sandwich cookie at its end plugging a very rich and substantial chocolate filling. The entire pas... Meiji Tanpact Cheese Biscuit with Milk Chocolate: I think I'm naturally sensitive to packaging design given my interest in visual design, but being in a foreign country where I don't know the language further deepens my reliance on food photography to make purchasing decisions. When I saw this box of biscuits, I assumed that they were plain crackers with a one-sided chocolate coating. It was only when I got home that I saw the smaller image underneath the product name showing 3 types of cheese (what appears to be blue cheese, gouda, and br... (read more) 3.0/5.0
