Pringles Consomme potato crisps: These are a Japanese exclusive flavor of Pringles, retaining much of the familiar taste and texture of the American classic but with an addictive onion soup-type taste. It's just as flavor-saturated as the American type and generally very tasty as far as junk food goes. Would recommend trying them if you come to Japan! 3.5/5.0

Sweet Box Co. Singapore Chicken Rice Potato Chips: Ridged potato chips that are flavored like Singapore Chicken Rice, which I'm not sure I've actually had before but reminds me of a more peppery Hainanese Chicken, with a slightly boozy flavor (from rice wine). I don't believe it is actually meant to taste like rice - just the chicken that comes with the dish. The potato chips themselves are not so crispy and more thickly cut than normal ridged potato chips - they remind me more of Pringles in their potato flavor than Ruffles for example. ... Koikeya Strong Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips: These chips taste like the Japanese version of Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion Chips except that the flavor is stronger on tangy sour cream taste, which I enjoy even more. I get the sense that Koikeya is sort of like the Frito Lay's of Japan, since their brands are everywhere and especially prominent in convenience stores. Overall, a familiar but comforting junk food flavor. 3.5/5.0

YBC Aerial Cheddar Flavored Chips: I really like the texture of these light and crispy chips from Japanese junk-food manufacturer YBC. They consist of nugget-shaped chips that are multi-layered and irregularly shaped, giving it a very unique texture. The cheddar flavored ones have a milky and creamy flavor that is common among cheddar-flavored Asian snacks, which is less salty and sharp than American cheddar-flavored snacks. Overall, I still like it for the texture but prefer the roe-flavored chips I previously reviewed. 3.5/5.0

Sweet Box Japanese black beef potato chips: A common potato-based junk food I see here in Japan but not in the states is french-fry-shaped chips, thickly cut like the British type you get with fish and chips but crunchy: extruded fried potato sticks. The most popular is Calbee Jagabee, though I actually have not yet tried it (you can get it easily in the states), but the bag I purchase is substantial and hearty in comparison, at least in terms of the diameter of each piece. The chips have a strong garlic flavor that tastes slightly sm... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Koikeya Suppa-Mucho Ume Chips: A seasonal flavor based on umeboshi, a traditional pickled plum that has a sour sweet flavor. The chips are thin and crispy and have a unique tangy taste. Having not had umeboshi by itself before, it's difficult for me to assess how closely it tastes of the actual pickled fruit, but the flavor is unlike any chip flavor I've had before and I think is ultimately tasty and worth a try! This is a very widely available brand of chips that you can find at most convenience stores. 3.5/5.0
