Crown Peanut Log: This exceptionally substantial candy bar comes from Georgia, where peanut logs are apparently a tradition. Having never heard of them before, I was surprised to find a white nougat interior hidden by a generous coating of roasted peanuts. The nougat melts in your mouth as only highly fatty snacks can do. Holding the peanuts to the chewy interior is a thin caramel layer. A few bites of this highly sweetened snack is enough, as it should be given that a serving size is only half the bar. In sm... Biscolata dublex: Turkish chocolate bar with a biscuit foundation and cream-filled milk chocolate. Excessive? There is 16g of saturated fat in a bar, 100% of your daily recommended serving. (In)conveniently, the nutrition facts are discretely covered by the wrapper's fold, and the sugar content is nowhere to be found. Flavor-wise, we have a common vending machine milk chocolate bar with a crunchy biscuit base: familiar and generally inoffensive. 2.5/5.0

Chimes peanut butter ginger chews: After sampling the surprisingly good mango ginger chews, I gave this unexpected flavor combination a try. Like most ginger candy, each is individually wrapped and dusted with a powdered coating, which prevents the candy from sticking too much to the wrapper. Small pieces of peanut are dispersed throughout the chew, and the nutty spicy combo overall works well. Three grams of sugar for a small chew seems like a lot, but in small quantities, this treat is good. 3.5/5.0

KitKat Wasabi: An import from Japan, this KitKat has a (overly sweet) white chocolate exterior covering a wasabi-cream wafer. The spicy flavor is surprisingly palatable, but the white chocolate dominates. 2.0/5.0

Awake caffeinated caramel chocolate: Milk chocolate bar segmented into four with a caramel filling. An entire bar contains as much caffeine as a cup of Joe. The chocolate itself is a basic milk chocolate, as was the gooey but overly sweet caramel. Whether or not the caffeine content was effective for me (or if the effects were purely psychological) I cannot say. 2.5/5.0

Lake Champlain Caramel Five Star bar: These "snack" bars always seem to be at the check out at Whole Foods. I'm not one to purchase chocolate on my own, but I received one for participating in a research study at my lab. Inside the fairly thick milk chocolate shell is a very sweet honey caramel mixed with nuts. The size of the chocolate is awkward: too big for a snack, and requires a knife to reasonably share with others. Overall, I found the caramel milk chocolate combo to be far too sweet. Unfortunately, this five star bar is ... (read more) 2.0/5.0
