BKH Singapore Style Beef Jerky: BKH is a family-owned beef jerky shop in Vancouver, with over 30 years experience grilling beef and pork jerky fresh every day. The jerky comes in vacuum sealed bags and is meant to be consumed within a week after opening. I went for the beef jerky, which has a sticky, sweet glaze and deep smoky flavor – it's definitely the type of jerky where you need to wash your hands after eating. I found the beef a little tough (not so much chewy), and I expected the beef to be more thickly cut. Per... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Bricolage Crunchy coconut curry beef chips: On principle, I typically don’t write reviews of snacks at sit-down restaurants (my current working definition of a snack is an item that by itself is not a full meal and can be eaten with one hand on the go - I know it doesn’t work for everything I review here, but that’s the best I’ve been able to come up with). But the crunchy coconut curry beef chips from Park Slope-based Vietnamese gastropub Bricolage are too special not to review. Razor-thin slices of beef come in a fun resealable pack... Calbee Takumi Sendai Beef & Black Pepper Chips: I'm pretty fascinated by meat-flavored snacks, which are very popular in Asia. These are chips you can purchase at 7-11 in Japan that are flavored like peppered steak. They have a smoky flavor that do taste of black pepper, but they also have a meaty sweetness as if the beef were marinated in a sweet glaze. The chips are thin and crispy - similar to Lay's and a bit better than the other potato chips I've had here, many of which are translucent with oil. Overall, though, the pepper flavor... Lawless Jerky Mango habanero beef jerky: Excellent flavor that's slightly sweet and fruity but ends with a pleasant amount of heat. Very good quality, grass-fed beef. Some pieces are more moist than others-the moister ones are fantastic. A little salty, but not bad for jerky more generally. Highly recommend. 4.5/5.0

Lawless Jerky Sweet sriracha beef jerky: Sweet chili flavored jerky that has a balanced amount of heat. Doesn't have an overwhelming amount of sriracha flavor. Personally I preferred the mango habanero, but this is still a quality snack. 3.5/5.0

Ling Kee Beef Jerky: Around the corner from the East Broadway subway stop on the edge of Manhattan's Chinatown is a small shop called Ling Kee Beef Jerkey (sic). The shop sells pork, chicken, and beef jerky by 1/4, 1/2, or lb sizes, each laid out in stacks under a bright heatlamp. The shop specializes in Malaysian Jerky, which I hadn't had before but remind me a lot of Taiwanese beef jerky, which is nothing like American packaged jerky. Typically, asian jerky is moist, with a glistening, sweet glaze rather th... (read more) 4.5/5.0
