Tower Ginger Beer: Soda with poorly designed packaging tends to be very authentic - they're created by small distributors who don't have a marketing/branding team. Tower, a Boston-based soda company that's apparently been around since 1914, falls into this category. Upon further research, I found that Tower was actually founded in Somerville. Japonaise Bakery Green Tea Cake: Located on Beacon Street in Brookline, this small bakery has an assortment of pastries as well as packaged Japanese snacks. Their green tea cake is multi-layered, with green tea creme and a layer of gelatin on top. While the matcha flavor was not bad, the cake was a bit dry, and the gelatin was largely for texture (it didn't have much flavor). It looked better than it tasted. 3.0/5.0

Kind Maple Glazed Pecan and Sea Salt Nut Bar: A granola bar with a variety of textures: there are crunchy nuts and crispy grains, but they're bound together with a sweet and chewy maple glaze. The maple was very sweet, though the bar clearly marks that there is only 5g of sugar (it's not a very big bar, though). The sweetness is also offset by the sea salt, which has a prominent flavor. 3.0/5.0

Shake Shack Root Beer Float: I'm a fan of Abita root beer, which is on tap at Shake Shack, so I was curious about their Root Beer float. The one size is very substantial and comes in a tall container with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The quality of the ice cream and soda were both good, and together, they tasted exactly like what you would expect a solid root beer float would taste like. Momofuku Milk bar Cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow cookie: Not actually the kitchen sink cookie (there is an actual branded one here), this chewy cookie was too sweet for my taste, but I did appreciate the texture. Cornflakes add a surprisingly substantial and welcome flavor. 3.0/5.0
