Vegan Rob's Probiotic Cauliflower Puffs: I purchased this vegan snack from my local Key Foods supermarket. I didn't inspect the packaging very carefully before buying, so I missed the probiotic part and was merely attracted to the idea of having a cauliflower-based snack (and trying a brand I hadn't seen before). Looking at the ingredients list now, I see the inclusion of inulin and Bacillus Goagulans, both used to support digestion and otherwise help you poop. I can't say that I noticed much of a difference in my bowel movement,... (read more) 2.5/5.0

Kameda Age Ichiban Corn Potage Rice Crackers: Individually wrapped rice crackers, about 2" in diameter, with a concave shape and irregularly textured surface. They have a salty coating with a savory corn aftertaste; the initial flavor is upfront soy. I was hopeful that it would taste more like the sweet and savory corn potage puffs umaibo I've had in the past, but this is nowhere near as good. Purchased from Sunrise Mart, the Japanese supermarket chain in NYC. 2.5/5.0

Want Want Chicken and scallion mini rice crackers: Crunchy rice crackers shaped like golden brown nuggets coated in a seasoning tasting largely of onion and garlic. I wouldn't have guessed it was chicken flavored, but it does have that vaguely bouillon + MSG mix you get from seasoned ramen packets. Overall, I thought it was so-so. I prefer the rice crackers that have a more balanced savory and sweet coating. Purchased from Hong Kong Supermarket in Chinatown, NYC. 2.5/5.0

Pepperidge Farm Epic Crunch Ranch Goldfish: These baked crackers are about 25% bigger in size than normal Goldfish and are texturally crispier, though I wouldn't describe it as similar to a tortilla chip (which the packaging seems to claim). They're kind of like Ritz chips crackers, but with a more consistent thickness. The base of the Goldfish Epic Crunch crackers resembles original (plain) Goldfish with a slight corn flavor akin to a mild corn tortilla, and that neutral flavor is the predominant taste, even though they're seasoned... Trader Joe's Neapolitan Puffs Cereal: I like beans a lot, but I didn't expect to have them in my cereal. I unknowing purchased this bean-based cereal from Trader Joe's (I bought them because I was intrigued by the idea of Neapolitan cereal). It's made with a combination of chickpea, navy bean, and pinto bean powder along with brown rice. The crunch is heartier than normal corn and rice-based cereal (such as Kix, though the puffs are similar in size) and I can definitely taste that the cereal has "something" extra underneath t... Cedric Grolet & Dominique Ansel Bakery Le Citron, La Noisette, and La Fraise pastries: About 24 hours ago, I was waiting in line at Dominique Ansel Bakery at 7am, an hour before opening, in what would turn out to be a 2 hour await for a taste of French pastry chef Cedric Grolet's NYC debut. This chef is known for concocting fruit desserts whose outward appearance mimics the texture and color of the real fruit, a style many describe as works of art. When its thin shell is shattered, the desserts reveal a layer of cream and a molten filling of fruit compote. Winner of the 2018 W... (read more) 2.5/5.0
