Yoshimi Yakitokibi: Several months ago, I wrote a review of Trader Joe's mochi rice nuggets, a fried savory glutinous rice snack unlike any other mochi I had eaten up to that point. Irregularly shaped, almost like golden nuggets, they were crunchy and dense - the polar opposite of the chewy texture I associate with mochi. Recently, I was gifted a bag of corn-flavored fried mochi crackers, brought back all the way from Japan, where this particular flavor can only be purchased in Hokkaido. The texture and shap... Nabisco Better Cheddars: I've had my fair share of cheddar flavored snacks (at the time of writing this review, there are 64 snacks tagged with cheese reviewed on Tasty Snacking http://www.tastysnacking.com/snacks?tag%5B%5D=cheese), and Better Cheddars occupies a largely untapped space. Unlike typical cheddar crackers (e.g., the Goldfish and Cheese-Its) which are thicker and have a more substantial bite, Better Cheddars are flaky and light, verging into chip-like territory. Ikedaya Mangetsu: Shrimp crackers in disc form, flavored with sesame seeds, cuttlefish, and MSG. Similarly textured to the bright pink shrimp crackers sometimes offered at American-ized Chinese restaurants, those these are a bit more dense. Not as boldly flavored as shrimp crackers, though the nori does add a new salinity to the mix. Purchased from Tokyo Fish Market in Berkeley. 2.5/5.0

365 Organic Apple Cinnamon Animal Crackers: A fresh take on a classic childhood favorite, these abstractly-shaped animal cookies are especially yummy. More mild than your typical apple cinnamon flavored snack. Just a tad sweet. A welcome addition to the standard vanilla, chocolate, and honey cookie alternatives. 4.0/5.0

Wakabato Iso Hineri rice crackers: Thought I hadn't tasted this particular brand before, these seaweed-flavored rice crackers are a classic Japanese snack. The rice crackers have a braided texture and curled shape, almost like a tentacle, and are coated with a sweet and savory glaze speckled with nori. Addictive and well balanced, these are the rice crackers I most often crave. Purchased from Tokyo Fish Market. 4.0/5.0

Trader Joe's Mochi rice nuggets: The joy of eating mochi comes down to its distinct chewy texture and its faintly sweet flavor, accentuated by even sweeter fillings like red bean and black sesame. So what happens when you take mochi, fry it so it's crispy, and season it so it becomes a savory snack? Trader Joe's is attempting to answer that question with their mochi nugget crackers. The nuggets are slightly larger than a piece of Capt'n Crunch and are on the salty side, with a golden sheen similar to corn cereal. Each crac... (read more) 2.5/5.0
