Lake Champlain Caramel Five Star bar: These "snack" bars always seem to be at the check out at Whole Foods. I'm not one to purchase chocolate on my own, but I received one for participating in a research study at my lab. Inside the fairly thick milk chocolate shell is a very sweet honey caramel mixed with nuts. La Violeta candies: While these violet, miniature flower-shaped candies are cute, they are the worst thing I have tasted in a long time. I had to spit it out, which is a rarity. It smelled and tasted like cleaning detergent. 0.5/5.0

Lotte Fit's big grape and peach gummies: Chewy gummy cubes with a sugary coating, half peach and half grape. They have less resistance (slightly squishier) than Sunkist fruit drops (much less than Dots), but the artificial fruit flavors are fairly standard. Super high amount of sugar but it comes in a small pouch with just a couple servings, typical of most junk food in Japan. 2.5/5.0

Maltesers malt balls: milk chocolate covered malt balls from Australia. Originally marketed as a lighter way to enjoy chocolate due to its honeycomb center, which is more air than actual product. This is where Maltesers falls short, particularly compared to the American equivalent, Whoppers; the inside is not substantial enough to have a satisfying melt-in-your melt malt experience, and the chocolate is your typical mass manufactured milk chocolate. About what you would expect from a vending machine classic. 2.5/5.0

Meiji Ginger Ale up Gummi: These are similar in shape and texture to Harbibo cola gummies but flavored like ginger ale. It does have a citrus + pear flavor similar to Sprite with a hint of ginger. Overall, I was hoping for more ginger flavor, or for the snack to capture some of the sharp fizziness of a can of ginger ale. But it was just ok. 3.0/5.0
