Mariani Sweet BBQ California Almonds: I'm not usually a nut person, but I heard because of their high protein content, they are more filling than other snacks. I decided to buy a bag of almonds to bring to work and see how effective they were for combatting post-lunch hunger. This particular flavor of almonds has a tasty smoky-sweet combination reminiscent of bbq chips. I will say that I found myself snacking on them throughout the day, not just after lunch, but I felt more guilty doing so because of the small serving size. ... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Kettle Brand Korean Barbecue Korean Chips: These chips really do taste like Korean barbecue (galbi to be specific), with a sweet, garlicky smoked flavor (and, of course, soy). Kettle is keeping their recipe well guarded, as the ingredients lists all the spices you would expect in regular bbq chips (garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and tomato powder), but classifies everything else under "natural flavors." Nonetheless, the smell and flavor is recognizable enough that I think you could guess it blindfolded – if Korean bbq is som... (read more) 4.0/5.0

4505 Smokehouse BBQ Fried Pork Rinds: From San Francisco-based 4505 BBQ is a line of flavored pork rinds that I've seen both at Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl. If their Smokehouse BBQ is indicative of the quality of their restaurant, I'm definitely interested. The chicharrones are some of the lightest I've had in any packaged form, and the flavor is smoky in just the right quantity. It has a subtle sweet aftertaste yet is deeply savory at its core. 4.0/5.0

Ocean's Halo Korean BBQ seaweed chips: The first thing I noticed upon opening this package was its scent, which is eerily similar to fish food. Scent aside, the taste is almost exactly as you would expect fish food to taste. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing; these words are coming from someone who grew up eating various seafood snacks liked dried squid and eel which might make western palates squeamish. But the flavor is not bad-the purple chips are crunchy and thin, and the Korean bbq comes through with a familiar sweet a... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Epic BBQ Seasoning Pork Rinds: With a name like Epic on top of Whole Foods product placement, this brand of artisanal pork rinds (chicharron) is just asking to be put under the microscope. Unsurprisingly, the brand is from Austin, TX, and uses all the popular buzz words like "paleo friendly," "nose to tail," and "antibiotic free." So, is it good? Texturally, it's among the best I've had from a bag, managing to be both light and crunchy - not overly fried and dissolves quickly on the tongue. The smoky BBQ flavor is bol... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Deep River Snacks Mesquite bbq chips: The mesquite bbq is definitely on the sweet side, but these chips also has a distinct smoky flavor. Because they’re kettle cooked, they have a satisfying texture slightly more crunchy than crispy. Overall, I liked them and would purchase again! 3.5/5.0
