Berkeley Bowl Mini Animal Crackers: The usual suspects all make appearances: camels, dogs, horses, and other minimalist but immediately identifiable shapes. They are much cuter than your typical animal crackers, and also much less sweet, resembling european biscuits. Bite sized pieces make for easy snacking. Great value. 3.5/5.0

Berkeley Bowl Pumpkin Ice Cream: Actually from Loard's Ice Cream, a chain based in Oakland, the Berkeley Bowl Pumpkin Ice Cream is sherbert orange with specks of brown throughout. If you let it sit out at room temperature, it takes on a whipped consistency almost like whipped cream cheese (I prefer this to the otherwise firmer, more dense texture). Sweet but endearingly so, like a dessert made with far too much cream but with a lot of love. 3.5/5.0

Besfren Taro and matcha soft serve: I stumbled upon this tiny pastry shop on my way to Penn Station from KTown and was impressed with the quality of their soft serve. Served in a large but slightly pricy cup (at $5.50), the purple and green ice cream swirl is well balanced and perfectly smooth. The creamy, slightly vegetal flavor of taro works surprisingly well with bitter matcha. Biena Habanero Chickpea Snacks: Protein-rich dried chickpea snack with a dry spice coating consisting of tomato, onion, and garlic powder, cumin, and habanero pepper (it's not spicy but well spiced). Messy to eat out of the bag as it's crumbly and quickly coats your fingers. Instead, these crunchy bits are a fantastic addition to a salad, adding enough flavor to make dressing unnecessary. Biena Rockin' Ranch Chickpea Snacks: An unlikely combination of fried chickpeas and ranch that works remarkably well, though I'm convinced that almost anything could be made tasty with the tangy and zesty ranch seasoning. The addictive coating is a cross between sour cream and onion and ranch dressing, making it bolder than your typical ranch snack. Big Gay Ice Cream Shop vanilla and chocolate mini soft serve: I took advantage of a weekday deal to get a mini cone with a mix of vanilla and chocolate soft serve, totaling around $3 after tax. The soft serve was smooth and creamy. Not overly sweet. The flavor combination was classic but well done. The cone was ordinary. Overall, a good deal and perfectly sized for a mid-day snack. 3.5/5.0
