Kubota Strawberry Milk Popsicle: This frozen treat is flavored with milk but has a consistency more like a fruit popsicle than ice cream (it doesn't have the smooth texture of ice cream when you bite into it, but has more water content than cream). Slices of strawberry are embedded in the ice cream so you get both the fruit and the bar in each bite. The strawberry was nice and tart, but I wasn't fully convinced about the milk bar, which had a fairly neutral flavor overall. Purchased from Queens Isetan. 3.0/5.0

YBC Garlic Steak Chips: Aerial is a junk food staple in Japan consisting of layered fried corn pieces with a crispy and light texture. The underlying fried corn flavor reminds me a lot of Bugles (which also have their Japanese equivalent in a snack called Tongari Corn), but the texture of Aerials is much more fun. This particular bag inspired by garlic steak is smoky and has an intense garlic flavor, the type that leaves an aftertaste so strong that I was a little thankful I've been working / snacking in isolatio... Tohato Peach Caramel Corn: In celebration of Girls Day, an annual holiday in Japan, Tohato had a seasonal peach flavored corn puff snack with both traditional curl-shaped pieces and new pink hearts. If you haven't had caramel corn from this brand before, they're kind of like cheese puffs but instead of cheese powder, they're covered in a glazed coating that's very sweet but doesn't taste of caramel per se; it tastes a bit more like cotton candy to me. The peach flavor reminded me of Japanese peach flavored gummies. ... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Nezu No Pan Black Sesame Raisin Bread: I loved the bread I was gifted from this bakery in Nezu so much that I wanted to see all the flavors they had to offer. I bought two more mini-loaves to try. The first was sliced black sesame raisin bread, with a thin crust and chewy stretch interior mixing a healthy amount of black sesame and plump raisins. I really liked the savory taste of the black sesame, but I found the raisins to be overpoweringly sweet – about half the quantity would have been better balanced in my eyes. The quali... Mister Donut Sakura Mochi Donut: Cherry blossom season is about to start, and seasonal sakura-themed snacks are already being featured in snack aisles and specialty shops alike. Mister Donut, a popular donut chain in Japan (though originally from the US), has several special donuts for this occassion, each packaged in its own takeaway box with "misdo" branding. Every donut has a slightly different emphasis on either sakura, matcha, or white chocolate flavors. The sakura mochi donut I purchased builds on their classic ring ... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Kellogg's Hershey's Strawberry Chocobits: Strawberry milk was a guilty pleasure of mine growing up. We weren't allowed to buy chocolate or strawberry syrup at home, so I would covet Nesquik powder every time I visited a friend's house. I haven't seen this brand of Hershey's cereal outside of Japan, but it normally comes in a chocolate flavor featuring cereal nuggets with a cream filling. It definitely leans more towards the taste of cereal than say an Oreo cookie, but it's also certainly engineered for a kid's palette. The straw... (read more) 3.0/5.0
