Blue Bunny Big Vanilla Sandwich: It's 100 degrees in San Francisco this weekend, a rare heatwave that still feels very muggy despite the lack of humidity. My co-workers that work in the downtown SF office of my company are lucky enough to have free access to a freezer of ice cream, including this large ice cream sandwich from Blue Bunny. It tastes exactly the same as the ice cream sandwiches you had growing up - two chocolate "cookies" that have a sponge-like texture that sandwich vanilla ice cream that somehow manages to... Sweetheart Cafe Avocado Slush with Boba: A creamy drink that tasted more like milk than avocado. The standout component was still the boba, which remains singular in its chewy consistency. Overall, though, I would recommend another beverage at this Berkeley favorite just a block away from Sather Gate. 2.5/5.0

TeaOne Buckwheat Purple Yam Milk Tea with Boba: Located on Telegraph on the edge of Berkeley's campus is TeaOne, yet another bubble tea shop in Berkeley. I decided to try their Buckwheat Purple Yam milk tea because it's a flavor I haven't seen elsewhere. Unfortunately, it is a flavor that probably shouldn't exist elsewhere because it has a starchy, grainy texture almost reminiscent of sesame breakfast porridge you get in powder packs at Asian grocery stores. The boba was also overly soft, with little discernible taste. 2.5/5.0

Craftsman & Wolves Strawberry Lemonade: Vividly colored seasonal lemonade from Mission bakery Craftsmen & Wolves. Strawberry flavor was concentrated, but the drink overall was incredibly sweet and not particularly acidic. I had to consume it in small sips for it to be palatable. 2.5/5.0

Invo Coconut Water: Coconut water is like the avocado toast of the beverage world, though admittedly it takes more effort to cut open a fresh coconut than it is to slice an avocado. Should anyone be charging $5 for a 16oz bottle of coconut water? Invo thinks that it can, but I disagree. I purchased this bottle as an alternative to a can of diet soda from my office's Byte vending machine. The drink has a clean coconut water flavor that is not so different than any other coconut water, at the end of the day. 2.5/5.0

A&W 10 Root Beer: I can't pinpoint exactly when it started, but sometime in undergrad (when I was severely overworked as most MIT undergrads are), I chose diet soda as my caffeinated-beverage-of-choice. I wasn't reliant on it the same way my classmates depended on coffee, but I knew it was an effective way to keep myself alert, and I was scared of the unnecessarily high sugar content of non-diet soda. It took me a while to acclimate to the off-taste of aspartame, but once I did, I started to try different die... (read more) 2.5/5.0
