Calbee Jagariko Salad Potato Sticks: These cylindrical potato sticks are a staple in convenient stores in Japan, typically packaged in small bucket-shaped containers for single serving snacking, but they are also available in multiple-servings pouches from supermarkets. The salad flavor incorporates flecks of orange and green, potentially to signal that carrots, celery, and other seemingly heathier things have been added, but the main taste is of fried potato and oil. They have a satisfying, substantial crunch yet hold their s... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Hebesu Drink Citrus Beverage: I got introduced to a lot of new citrus fruits while living in Japan. Hebesu, a round lime-like fruit, comes from Miyazaki prefecture. This uncarbonated drink was pleasantly tart and sweet, kind of like kalamansi in flavor profile, though accordingly the package, it only contains 10% juice. Purchased at Coop grocery store. 3.0/5.0

Lotte Koala March Shortcake Flavor: Koala March is one of those brands that many Asian people are familiar with in the states – I've seen it in groceries stores of all types, including Chinese (99 Ranch), Korean (H-Mart), and Japanese (Nijiya). Like all Koala March, it features Koala-shaped biscuits with a solid icing filling - this one tasted of a neutral cream filing, like... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Lotte Chilsung Lemon Line Soft Drink: When I purchased this beverage to go along with my dinner in ICH, I was told that it was the Korean version of Sprite. I can confirm that it tasted exactly like Sprite. 2.5/5.0

Tokyo Banana Pokmeon Edition Tokyo Banana: Tokyo Banana is a brand of cake only available in Japan that's marketed as the #1 souvenir. I bought a few boxes to mail as gifts when returning to the states, along with this single serving pouch of their special Pokemon edition. As far as I know, it's the exact same flavor as the original Tokyo Banana but features Pikachu printed on the sponge cake. The cake itself is very fluffy and soft but has very little flavor to it on its own; inside is a banana cream with a slightly brownish-yell... (read more) 2.5/5.0

Tohato Milky Caramel Corn: To prevent the spread of COVID, all drinking fountains were disabled, and all restaurants were closed at Narita International Airport. The only place to buy food in Terminal 1 was at their Lawson convenient store, which sold a variety of packaged snacks. I hadn't seen this Milky version of Caramel Corn, based on the popular condensed-milk-flavored candies, so I got it to eat for breakfast before my flight. The puffed corn took on the flavor of milk candy remarkably well, tasting like a cr... (read more) 3.0/5.0
