The multi-colored, spherical rice snacks each contain a single roasted peanut. Some are topped with sesame, others mixed with nori; all are glazed with a lightly savory coating. Denroku Porippy Crispy Peanuts: I had previous reviewed the 'spicy' version of this snack and purchased a new flavor to try without knowing what the package said. It turns out that the green bag is the normal flavor consisting of roasted peanuts in a seasoned fried crispy coating. It's definitely missing the extra flavor that the spicy peanut has, which comes in a yellow and red bag. Definitely prefer the spicy flavor; while these were not bad, they are more for purist fans of roasted peanuts than I am. 3.0/5.0

Huang Fei Hong spicy peanuts: Chili peanut blend containing dried chili peppers, roasted peanuts, and peppercorns. My dad swears by these, but I actually prefer the Qia Qia brand. The peanuts are not that flavorful until you get a mouthful of peppercorns, at which point the flavor is too strong. 3.0/5.0

Kasugai Squid Pea Snack: I expected this to be a wasabi pea snack but quickly discovered that pea is short for peanuts. Each crunchy rice ball contains a single peanut. The exterior is crispy and tastes a bit like shrimp crackers (the ingredients list cuttlefish). A bag contains two servings, which go quickly. 3.5/5.0

Koh Kae Spicy Hot Pot Peanuts Mala: Purchased from HMart in Midtown, this can of peanuts has a uniquely spiced chili flavor that actually does taste similar to a schezuan-style hot pot. It’s savory but not overly spicy, with just enough heat. The roasted peanuts themselves were pretty ordinary, but the seasoning makes them worth trying. 3.0/5.0
