Denroku Okay Pea Eel Peanut Snacks: Rice cracker balls that each contain a single roasted peanut, with a squid-flavored coating that's full of umami. Uses squid from Hokkaido. The balls are slightly smaller than puffed cheese balls but are just as snackable. Kind of like how some cereals feature only granola clusters rather than a mix of flakes and sliced nuts, these peanut rice snacks are typically the best part of rice cracker mixes, so I'm happy to have a bag of the most tasty bits. 3.5/5.0

Fugetsu-Do Peanut Butter Mochi: Long-standing Japanese confectionary shop Fugetsu-Do, located in Japantown in downtown Los Angeles, sells its mochi at various stores around California (I recently found their products at Berkeley Bowl). This set of Peanut Butter Mochi was purchased from Marukai in Glendale, LA and contained 6 sizable pieces of soft, chewy mochi filled literally with chunky peanut butter (maybe Jiff). It feels almost sacrilegious but simultaneously like a sort of twisted American dream where peanut butter c... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Horizon Peanut Butter Sandwich crackers: Really nice quality peanut butter. The problem is that there is only a sliver of it about a millimeter thick in each sandwich. The filling to cracker ratio is off. Additionally, the crackers are seasoned so that the dominant taste after a few pieces is salt. Which is probably good for portion control, since only 12 of these crackers make up a serving. At least for me, this is not nearly enough to feel any level of satiation. Definitely made for kids with smaller appetites. 2.5/5.0

Humphry Slocombe Peanut butter and fudge ripple ice cream: On my way home from work yesterday, I had intended to stop by Ben and Jerry’s for free scoop day but found the line to be prohibitively long at an estimated 45 minutes. I decided it wasn’t worth the wait, but today, I still had ice cream on my mind, so I stopped by Humphrey Slocombe in the Ferry Building and purchased a $4.50 scoop of peanut butter fudge ripple ice cream. It was creamy and rich in a slightly moorish sort of way, with a classic Americana flavor more peanut butter than chocola... (read more) 3.5/5.0

JJ Bakery Peanut Mochi: Generously sized chewy and sweet mochi coated with peanut powder and filled with a sweet, textured peanut paste. Mochi is glistening on the inside. Holds up well in the fridge (I had it a day after it was purchased, and it was still delicious). 4.0/5.0

Juice Bar Collective Peanut butter banana shake: Juice Bar Collective is probably my favorite food spot in The Gourmet Ghetto in Berkeley. It's a small worker-owned collective that offers a variety of veggie (and a few meat) entrees like polenta, lasagne, and bahn mi. This may be surprising given the name Juice Bar, but they also had some fantastic beverage options to accompany your meal. The peanut butter and banana shake I had with soy milk had just the right amount of peanut butter without affecting its smooth, creamy consistency. Much ... (read more) 3.5/5.0
