Shirafuji Seika Ika mirin age: To mark the occasion of reaching 1,000 tasty snacks, I went to Tokyo Fish Market to purchase Japanese snacks. I purposely picked two bags without any English on the packaging. The first was a squid-flavored rice cracker which, according to the ingredients, contains shrimp, cuttlefish, and octopus. Combining these seafood flavors with a generous amount of MSG leads to a umami-rich snack. The irregularly shaped crackers have a deep orange color and a shiny coating. Very satisfying and tasty. 3.5/5.0

Inaba Irodori Mix: A mix of classic senbei glazed rice crackers, including irregularly-shaped, textured shoyu nuggets; glazed sweet and savory crunchy balls embedded with strips of nori, each surrounding a single peanut; airy crisps resembling puffed shrimp crackers; and a surprising addition of dried anchovies, providing a concentrated salinity that balances some of the sweeter bites. Contained five individual-sized packs portioned well to be satisfying snack for grown ups. Purchased from Tokyo Fish Market in... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Trader Joe’s Rice Cracker Medley: This rice cracker snack from Trader Joe’s doesn’t taste exactly like those you get at any Asian grocery store. The crackers have a glazed coating that tastes more strongly of rice vinegar than any other rice cracker mix I’ve had before, giving it a uniquely tangy and sharp flavor. Tossed in with the rice crackers is the occasional wasabi pea. Overall, a solid snack priced reasonably - would purchase again. 3.5/5.0

Denroku Okay Pea Eel Peanut Snacks: Rice cracker balls that each contain a single roasted peanut, with a squid-flavored coating that's full of umami. Uses squid from Hokkaido. The balls are slightly smaller than puffed cheese balls but are just as snackable. Kind of like how some cereals feature only granola clusters rather than a mix of flakes and sliced nuts, these peanut rice snacks are typically the best part of rice cracker mixes, so I'm happy to have a bag of the most tasty bits. 3.5/5.0

Majans Bhula Snacks cracker mix: A blend of rice crackers with crunchy noodles, green peas, peanuts, chickpeas, and sultanas. I expected this to have a spicy kick given the marketing on the package but found it to be surprisingly bland. Actually not that different from a typical oriental rice cracker mix. Disappointing but still a decent snack. 3.0/5.0

Kameda Soft Salad crackers: Slightly more savory that's Want Want Shelly Senbei crackers, but a decent neutral snack. I prefer rice crackers paired with sweet icing, though. 3.0/5.0
