Lays Jalapeño kettle cooked potato chips: Surprisingly spicy. Aggressively seasoned and more crunchy than crispy. If you're going to eat an unhealthy snack, it's worth going all in. 4.0/5.0

Kettle Dill Pickle Potato Chips: Thoroughly enjoyed this take on pickles, which captures the tangy and savory qualities of a quality brine. It tasted a bit like combining sour cream and onion, minus the sour cream, but then adding salt and vinegar, but with a pepperiness that is unique to this flavor. Like other Kettle chips, the krinkle cut is thick and substantial and a bit too hearty for my personal taste. But if you enjoy pickles and don't have one to accompany your lunch, this bag of potato chips will be a tasty sub... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Deep River Snacks New York Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips: Really love a classic kettle cooked potato chips, and this pickle flavored one feels like it's meant to be eaten alongside a freshly made deli sandwich. I got it in a train station convenience store, so I just ate them on their own, which was still super tasty. Concentrated dill flavor; crispy and substantial; seasoned just right. 4.0/5.0

Lay’s Cucumber Potato Chips: One thing I find overwhelming but also awe-inspiring is that no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to try every flavor of Lay’s potato chips. These cucumber-flavored chips were purchased at an Asian grocery store and originate from China. Perhaps this is unsurprising, as crushed cucumbers, flavored with salt and vinegar, are a perennial side dish in Chinese restaurants. These chips are both savory and sweet, with a remarkably true-to-name flavor. They taste more vegetal than sal... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Nico Sweet potato donut: There's a pocket-sized store close to the train station that sells freshly made donuts about the size of a Montreal bagel. They're a bit pricy relatively, compared to how inexpensive most things are in Japan, but a purple Japanese sweet potato donut caught my eye, and I purchased one at about $2.50. The texture of the donut was very unique, not crumbly like cake donuts, but also not oily at all like heavily fried donuts. Almost like a very light pound cake, but barely sweetened. In fact, th... Koikeya Mozzarella and lemon potato chips: In theory, this unexpected mozzarella and lemon combination seems like it would be a bit odd, but it's actually surprisingly good, like a more creamy and mild sour cream and onion flavor with a lemon kick. The acidic lemon seasoning is the first taste you get, but the chips have a milky and tangy finish, almost like a sour yogurt. I'm generally not a big fan of the cheese flavored snacks I've had here in Japan, but this is definitely an exception. Purchased at Lawson 100. 4.0/5.0
