Johnnie Ryan root beer: Sickeningly sweet soda from Niagara Falls, NY. Uses cane sugar, but far too much of it. 1.5/5.0

Its tropical flavor makes it difficult to pair with (unlike almond or soy milk, which have a more neutral flavor), and its high saturated fat content makes it hard to justify, even with the extra calcium. 1.5/5.0

The water is supposedly purified with added electrolytes. The flavor was oddly sweet, with an aftertaste similar to that of diet coke (aspartame?) I quickly refilled it with tap and all order was restored. 1.5/5.0

Did I find it in this highly rated spot? Alas, no. The tea was diluted, the sugar crystals not fully dissolved such that every few sips, I'd get a crunch. The boba was even worse, with a mushy texture that was far too soft. Which leaves me with the question: is there any decent bubble tea to be found in Boston's "Chinatown"? 1.5/5.0
