Brooklyn Crafted Mango ginger beer: I was hopeful about this fruit-flavored ginger beer, which I found at Brooklyn Fare in downtown Brooklyn. Purchased in a set of four bottles, the apricot-tinted drink contains bits of ginger sediments throughout. Sadly, the soda drank very sweet, reminding me of generic fruit-flavored gelatin snacks you can get from Asian grocery stores in the candy aisle. Edward & Sons Organic Ginger Culinary Juice: To be fair, this product is labelled as a culinary juice, rather than regular juice you would drink on its own. The label suggests adding it to soups, smoothies, and sauces. I decided to try it straight out of the bottle, thinking it was more of a mixer than a barebones ingredient. Mi-Del Maple Ginger Cremes: I bought these from the seasonal / new section at the Park Slope Food Co-op because I love ginger. The sandwich cookies are half chocolate, half vanilla and contain a potently sweet maple ginger filling that smells mostly of maple and tastes mostly of sugar. Anchor Ginger Root Beer: This vintage style root beer unfortunately falls flat, with an overly sweetened syrupy flavor that tastes very little of ginger. Live Kombucha Ginger Kombucha: I hadn't read the label carefully on this package and only realized after I had opened the bottle that it's sweetened with Stevia. The artificial sweetener gives it a characteristic aftertaste that I personally do not find pleasant. The kombucha itself is pretty generic, with a mild ginger flavor.
