Chester's Cheese flavored Puffcorn: Long gone are the days when Chester the Cheetah starred in his own video game (see Too Cool to Fool, NES 1992). While he's still featured prominently on Cheetos packaging, his name is a relic of 90s/00s commercial spots of my childhood. A quick search on YouTube for Cheetos ads reveals a shift away from pure animation to showing real people interacting with a CGI Chester. But on a recent trip to CVS, I found a bag of Chester's Cornpuffs, a product I had up to this point not seen before. It seems to be exclusively stocked in the lower tier of convenience stores, from drugstores to bodegas to Walmart of the world. Here, a mere $2 gets you an entire 10 serving bag. The snack had a less dense texture than normal puffed Cheetos and also a more spare cheesy coating. Both products are remarkably similar in shape and texture to packaging foam, though the puffcorns are more variable. They really don't resemble popcorn in any way, which begs the question why the packaging promotes the lack of hulls or hard kernels. If you have a choice between regular puffed Cheetos or these cornpuffs, the puffed Cheetos are the way to go. But there's no denying that with Cornpuffs, Chester is fully in the spotlight. 3.0/5.0
