San Pellegrino Pomegranate and orange spda: Though I generally find San Pellegrino fruit sodas to be too sweet, this pomegranate and orange flavor combo is unique, with a tangy, slightly bitter taste and good citrus zing. I had it to accompany a duck bahn mi from New Silverstar Deli (in my opinion, one of the best places to get a bahn mi in San Francisco, where we are lucky enough to have many quality bahn mi options), and it cut through the richness in a satisfying and cleansing way. 3.0/5.0

Bruce Cost Passion Fruit ginger soda: Brooklyn-based Bruce Cost offers some of the better ginger sodas more widely available (at Whole Foods, for example). Their passion fruit soda is unique, providing a sharp tropical flavor combination. Like others in their line, the Soda has ginger sediments on the bottom that give texture and spice. 3.5/5.0

Cape Cod Ginger Original Ginger Soda: Sometimes bad packaging can be just as attention-grabbing as good branding, in effect indicating that the company might be spending more on its homemade product than on graphic design. That's likely the case with Cape Cod Ginger, a company specializing in carbonated, organic, cold-pressed ginger drinks of various fruit flavors including passion fruit and pineapple. I opted for the classic, which induced a healthy tingly sensation as good ginger drinks do. Slightly sweeter than I personall... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Cawston Press Ginger Beer: Ginger beer just may be my all time favorite beverage, so while I'm particular about snacks more generally, ginger sodas undergo an extra level of scrutiny. I've reviewed 38 ginger-flavored beverages on Tasty Snacking so far and continue to seek new takes on the uniquely spicy root. That's what makes Cawston Press's ginger beer so special - it combines the warming spice of ginger with pressed apples, which provide a level of freshness and sweetness that is refreshingly new. San Pellegrino Aranciata Orange Soda: I think I've had every flavor of San Pellegrino fruit soda but have never written reviews of any of them. They aren't sodas I would normally choose to purchase; they're certainly better than Sprite or Sunkist, but I find them to be too sweet nonetheless. But when I found myself at Salumi, an Italian sandwich shop in downtown Seattle, I knew I would need a robust citrus drink to cut through a rich, meaty sandwich, and this cold fizzy Orange San Pellegrino worked wonders. Outside of this conte... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Rachel's Ginger Beer: A Seattle-based venture, Rachel's ginger beer is available at restaurants around the city but has a mix of ginger + fruit concoctions available on tap at its Pikes Place shop. I opted for the classic, and it definitely tasted fresh, inducing a sharp tingly feeling in the back of your throat. I've made ginger beers from scratch at home that taste very similar. In other words, there's an important distinction to make: it tasted homemade, but not artisanal. Not as balanced as I hoped it would b... (read more) 3.0/5.0
