Fanta Socata Soda: This is a limited edition vending-machine exclusive in Japan from Fanta, the first in a series they're calling 'Delicious Flavours of the World,' where they introduce flavors only available in other regions of the world to the Japanese market. I found out about it because I was intrigued by the name SOCATA?! on the label, with the universal white and blue color scheme of mystery flavors (e.g. White Air Heads, Mystery Oreo, etc.) The label also features a castle in the background, hinting at its European origins. I learned from some research that Socata is a traditional Romanian drink made of fermented elderflowers in a honey, lemon, and sugar mixture. The drink is a lot more palatable than other Fanta sodas I remember having growing up (which were all way too sweet) but also the can is smaller than normal, so I'm guessing that helps. It has a distinct honey citrus flavor that has some definitely floral notes, verging on air freshener territory but ultimately not crossing the line. I enjoyed it and thought it was worth seeking out. Since it was first announced last summer and is available until stock runs out, I was afraid they would be sold out everywhere. I looked at around 30 vending machines over the past day, which is actually not very hard since vending machines are everywhere. In the end, the original machine that I saw it in (at a crosswalk in Akihabara) was sold out yesterday but restocked this morning, so I was able to purchase it today, luckily. 3.5/5.0
