Lay's Grilled Squid Flavor Potato Chips: Purchased at HMart, these substantially ridged potato chips feature a sweet and savory flavor that's a little smoky and a lot of umami. Akin to a sweet teriyaki glaze. I especially liked the texture of the ridges, whose valleys and mountains are about 3x as deep as Ruffles. Worth a try if you're into seafood flavored snacks. 3.5/5.0

Maruka Setouchi Lemon Flavored Ika-Ten: I found this bag in the dried squid / bar snack section of my local supermarket and was drawn to the colorful packaging. It contains ika-ten, dried squid that's battered and fried; in this case, it's coated with a strong lemon powder that's extremely addicting. I haven't come across a snack that is this tangy and acidic before, even though I've had a good number of citrus snacks by now. It balances the deep savory and salty flavor of the fried squid, which is very crispy rather than the u... (read more) 4.0/5.0

合食 Fried Squid Snack: These squid-flavored snacks are shaped like the body of a squid sans tentacles and have a bubbled, irregular texture reminiscent of fried multigrain chips. Each pack comes with four sizable pieces that are both remarkably savory yet also have a sweet aftertaste. For fans of chewy dried squid that prefer the crispy texture of chips. Definitely a unique one, which is a rarity for me. I'd get it again, but it's definitely not particularly healthy. 3.5/5.0

Tao Kae Noi Hot Chili Squid Grilled Seaweed Super Crisp: The unique texture of these ultra thin and crispy seaweed crisps inspires me to keep trying new flavors. This one, hot chili squid, tastes like a concentrated seafood ramen seasoning packet, except that it incorporates a sweet garlic chili paste that makes it unsettling sweet. More zesty than spicy. It’s one of the less successful flavors from this line of snacks but not so bad that I wouldn’t purchase a flavor I haven’t tried before. If you enjoy dried seaweed snacks but haven’t picked up t... Shirafuji Seika Ika mirin age: To mark the occasion of reaching 1,000 tasty snacks, I went to Tokyo Fish Market to purchase Japanese snacks. I purposely picked two bags without any English on the packaging. The first was a squid-flavored rice cracker which, according to the ingredients, contains shrimp, cuttlefish, and octopus. Combining these seafood flavors with a generous amount of MSG leads to a umami-rich snack. The irregularly shaped crackers have a deep orange color and a shiny coating. Very satisfying and tasty. 3.5/5.0

Miaow Miaow Cuttlefish Flavoured Crackers: From a wall of tempting Asian snacks at Tokyo Fish Bowl in Berkeley, this particular bag caught my attention, first from the cute cat-accented logo and then its intriguing seafood flavor. I am a huge fan of Asian seafood snacks, and this particular one is from Malaysia. Unlike more familiar shrimp crackers, the chips are thicker and curl almost onto themselves like curly fries. The tentacle-like indentations mean that more seasoning is caught in the crevices, and there is a ton of sweet a... (read more) 4.0/5.0
