Seijo Ishii Butter Chicken Curry Rice Crackers: Seijo Ishii is a 24-hour supermarket I lived closed to in my early stay in Tokyo which stocked a variety of international goods and flavors. One of the most intriguing and memorable series of snacks I had there were their curry rice crackers, featuring classic southeast asian dishes like green curry and butter chicken. The non-resealable bag contains several servings of large crispy rice crackers coated with a powdered seasoning – this happened to capture the taste of creamy butter chicken... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Luna Isey Skyr: It's rare to see greek yogurt in grocery stores in Japan; this version of icelandic skyr was purchased at Seijo Ishii and is strawberry flavored (though the packaging also shows peaches). It's noticeably thicker than other yogurt options, but it pales in comparison to Siggi's yogurt, which I miss a lot. Overall, I found this particular brand to be unpleasantly sour as well, despite its fruit flavoring. 2.0/5.0

Seijo Ishii Extra Spicy Ginger Ale: Ginger ale is my favorite soda, and I love ginger drinks that are particularly spicy, so I was excited to try this version claiming to be extra spicy. The bottle was a bit thicker than normal, which made me hopeful that it would contain especially carbonated soda. Overall, I found the ginger flavor to definitely be above average, probably in the top 40% of ginger ales I've had, but comparatively, it was just a bit spicier than Reed's Ginger Beer, which isn't as spicy as I would hope. On t... (read more) 3.5/5.0

Venus Delites Fig Filled Cookies: I purchased these cookies at Seijo Ishii, a grocery store specializing in imported products. I haven't seen Fig Newtons, or similar equivalents, since moving to Japan, and seeing them made me crave the flavor of the humble cookie. These were about 2/3 the size and had more of a crumbly rather than soft cookie exterior, but I found the chewy fig center to be more satisfying in texture and concentrated fig flavor than Fig Newtons, or the Newman's Own version. But I still prefer the softness... (read more) 3.0/5.0

三都屋商事 豆せいぞろい Rice Cracker Mix: I've always loved Japanese rice crackers, and these are the most colorful and delicious variety I've had. The rice balls are all glazed with soy and each contain a single roasted peanut; this mix has a variety of surprising flavors – some are covered in toasted sesame seeds, others with flecks of nori mixed with a seafood flavor reminding me of a milder shrimp cracker, my favorite almost looks like it's covered in moss, with a deep seaweed flavor, and there's even one that is slightly sweet... Seijo Ishii Green Curry Senbei Rice Crackers: This is a supermarket-branded rice cracker snack flavored like Thai green curry. The bag is not resealable, which I'm guessing means that it could be opened and eaten in a single sitting (with a group of people, though - even for me, it was about 4 servings). The crackers are Senbei Japanese rice crackers, shaped like miniature pancakes typically with a glazed coating, but the flavoring on this one was a powdered seasoning. It actually did taste remarkably like green curry, with a little ... (read more) 4.0/5.0
