Matcha Man Ice Cream and Taiyaki Black sesame taiyaki ice cream: This taiyaki ice cream shop in Seattleā€™s Georgetown neighborhood is the first to serve taiyaki in Seattle and proved popular on a Saturday evening, taking about 25 min from line to ice-cream in hand. They feature classic flavors like matcha and black sesame as well as Thai iced tea and dole whip. Being a big black sesame fan, I had to go for the classic in a fish-shaped waffle cone. The waffle is more western than taiyaki you would get in Japan, which is very crispy. This one instead was mor... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Mighty-O Donuts Lavender Lemonade: Seattle vegan donut shop Might-O Donuts has a surprisingly large variety of housemade drinks, making it harder to choose which beverage to to get over a donut flavor. The lavender lemonade was initially refreshing floral, but the flavor didn't permeate through the entire cup (I maybe should have stirred it more), so after I got halfway through, it tasted a little diluted. But it was still interesting enough that I'd try other drinks the next time I go. 3.0/5.0

Mighty-O Donuts Apple Cider Donut: I miss the apple cider donuts you can get on the east coast in the fall, so I decided to try the PNW version of it at the local vegan donut shop. This one had icing rather than a powdered seasoning but has a similar cakey texture that was quite moist for a vegan donut. The apple cider flavor is comfortingly spiced but definitely on the sweet side. High on yummy impact. 3.5/5.0

Rachel's Ginger Beer: A Seattle-based venture, Rachel's ginger beer is available at restaurants around the city but has a mix of ginger + fruit concoctions available on tap at its Pikes Place shop. I opted for the classic, and it definitely tasted fresh, inducing a sharp tingly feeling in the back of your throat. I've made ginger beers from scratch at home that taste very similar. In other words, there's an important distinction to make: it tasted homemade, but not artisanal. Not as balanced as I hoped it would b... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Salmonberry Goods Sweet Onion Cookie: Purchased this sizable cookie from the Salmonberry Goods stand at the Ballard Farmer's Market in Seattle. There was a bit of a line, but things moved quickly. I can never pass up a chance to try sweets flavored with vegetables, and this onion cookie was definitely unforgettable. It perfectly balances the sweet and savory flavor of caramelized onions and had a great crumbly yet rich, buttery consistency. Very excited to check out more from this stand in the near future. 4.5/5.0

Salmonberry Goods Plum Kombucha: I got this drink alongside the sweet onion cookie I previously reviewed, and even among the many kombucha options in Seattle, this one stands out as one of the best. The plum flavor is crisp and pure, sweet and tart, and the level of fermentation gives a pleasant herbal, slightly sour finish that's balanced just right. 4.5/5.0
