Harmless Harvest Harmless Coconut Water: This is a product that appeals to all types of coconut water consumers: it's fair trade (for the socially responsible), it's organic (for the health-conscious), it has a distinctively shaped bottle (for designers), and it's kind of expensive (all of the above). Some are pink (which happens when the polyphenols naturally present are exposed to light), while some are clear. Overall, I found it to be well balanced, refreshing, and light. 4.0/5.0

Luke's Organic Cheddar Clouds White Cheddar Cheese Puffs: Finally, a tasty gluten-free snack that doesn't scream gluten-free on the packaging. Actually, I didn't know it was gluten free until I looked up more information to write this review. Luke's specializes in gluten-free snacks, and these cheese puffs are designed to help people "snack like a kid, feel like a grown up." They have a sharper and tangier taste than Pirate's Booty and are similarly irregularly shaped. Not quite as light as you might guess for a product with "cloud" in its name... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Smari New Orleans Coffee Organic Icelandic Yogurt: I finally purchased this brand of icelandic-style yogurt, and since I now wake up earlier and tend to eat yogurt for breakfast, I thought I would combine a bit of caffeine into my morning routine (without having to actually brew coffee). The rich whole milk yogurt is not as thick as Siggi's or Fage but also creamier and smoother, with specks of coffee bean throughout. The coffee flavor itself is excellent – slightly bitter and not too sweet. Definitely one of the most memorable yogurts I'... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Bitsy's Brainfood Zucchini Gingerbread Carrot Smart Cookies: This brand of snacks was started by two moms looking for healthier options for their growing kids. I purchased the bag from Berkeley Bowl not knowing what to expect – I really like gingerbread, but I absolutely hate zucchini. Luckily, the crunchy alphabet-shaped cookies ended up being delicious and taste much more like baked goods like carrot cake or zucchini bread than they do of any pure vegetable. Sweetness from the carrots is definitely distinguishable from the molasses, cinnamon, and ... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Straus Family Creamery Organic Plain Nonfat Yogurt: What exactly is European-style yogurt? Having seen this labeling on Trader Joe's and now Strauss Family Creamery yogurt, I decided to investigate, discovering conflicting claims that Trader Joe's European-style yogurt just may come from Straus Family Creamery. Regardless, these sources did not clarify what is meant by European-style, but I can say that it's more runny than regular yogurt, yet still fully solid (not watery). The flavor is also pleasantly tart and easily balanced with just ... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Clif Bar Kid Iced Lemon Cookie Z Bar: There are very few times in life where free samples influenced me to support a brand. Back in 2011, I was manning a booth at Maker Faire Bay Area, and after hours of demoing, I was exhausted and extremely hungry. Making my way to the fast food trucks, I came across a Clif Bar tent providing free samples of their line of children's energy snacks. They were both tasty and filling, and I found myself forgoing garlic fries in favor of a healthier alternative. When I saw the bars on sale at B... (read more) 4.0/5.0
