Dominique Ansel Bakery Peach Creme Fraiche Mousse Cake: This teardrop-shaped dessert consists of a lemon cake with peach compote, all covered in a thin shard of pink-striped chocolate. It had a sharp, acidic flavor, and technically, the cake was soft and moist. But I couldn't help but wonder what exactly this dessert was trying to accomplish. While I hadn't had anything like it before, I wouldn't say it was particularly satisfying; it exists in its own world that's not quite delicious, yet not really challenging enough to stay in my memory. 3.0/5.0

Dominique Ansel Kitchen What-a-melon watermelon soft serve: Dominique Ansel celebrates the start of summer with a special watermelon soft serve, served in a fresh watermelon "taco" topped with thin seed-shaped chocolate. We braved the line of Instagram fanatics for 20 minutes in advance of the soft serve window opening at 11am at the West Village Dominique Ansel Kitchen. Admittedly, it's as photogenic as any Ansel dessert, with a mountainous swirl of glistening orange-pink sorbet. The soft serve itself had a concentrated melon flavor and great textu... Dominique Ansel Kitchen Honey Creme Fraiche soft serve with elderflower grapes: The newest special soft serve from Dominique Ansel Kitchen in the West Village. It's a sizable portion that comes at a sizable price just over $10. The honey creme fraiche ice cream had a good flavor, like a honey-sweetened tart yogurt, but the elderflower-marinated grapes were just not good. They were coated in sugar, making them entirely too sweet and difficult to eat. Without the grapes, I would have given it a 3 overall given the price, but with the grapes, it's a 2.5. 2.5/5.0

Drop the Mic Ice Cream: Continuing from the previous review, the second set consisted of the green apple sorbet, black truffle ice cream, and purple potato ice cream. My favorite was the green apple sorbet, which had always been fantastic (a tip: you can go across the street and order it any time at the dessert club). I've been told it has to be made fresh consistently since the vivid green color fades once it starts to oxidize. The truffle ice cream had a very potent, savory flavor. Interesting but not what I pers... (read more) 4.0/5.0

Du’s Donuts Ice cream sandwich : I really enjoyed the Pyggy sandwich I had at Byggyz, the newly opened sandwich shop in LES (NYC) from Wylie Dufresne’s dad Dewey. We decided to also try their one dessert option, an absurdly priced $7 ice cream sandwich made with Du’s donuts (the donut shop Wylie launched earlier in the year). Inside the ice cream sandwich is a marmalade ice cream, which, flavor-wise, had a satisfying tart flavor. Texturally, though, I found the sandwich as a whole to be a miss. The entire frozen treat is ov... (read more) 2.5/5.0

Fairway Kettle corn: Fairway is the great equalizer, with a mix of affordable conventional and organic produce and snacks that aren't easily found in other chains in NYC. Their kettle corn is more buttery than most, and the caramel coating is not overwhelmingly thick and crunchy. Overall, it's a good value snack. 3.0/5.0
