Organic Farm roasted chestnuts: I purchased two packs of roasted chestnuts from Hmart during a 2 for $3 sale. The last bag [https://instagram.com/p/7DXauqFIe7/] was unfavorably reviewed, mostly due to its slimy texture. This snacks veers in the opposite direction, with chestnuts that are on the dry side. Eaten with water, though, the chestnuts have superior flavor than the Haioreum bag, with a deeper, earthier flavor. Both bags list a single serving, but I found the bags really served at least 2. 2.5/5.0

Firecakes Pistachio Donut: I was hopeful about this highly regarded donut chain in Chicago. The offerings looked enticing, and fresh donuts were taken from the racks rather than those left sitting on display. But this pistachio cake donut was barely better than Dunkin, with a slightly dry, crumbly texture and too-sweet shamrock-green glaze, all compounded by an unnecessary brown sugar crumble. At least it was reasonably priced, at under $3. 2.5/5.0

Christina's carrot cake ice cream: I'm generally a big fan of Christina's, but this recent scoop was a miss. While the spiced flavor was quite good, especially the whole raisins and walnuts, the texture was not smooth at all, and the aftertaste was somewhat chalky. 2.0/5.0

Cheeseboard Sticky Bun: I wouldn't say I have a sweet tooth, but I can enjoy sweet things. I definitely have a preference, though, for lighter desserts. This sticky bun from Cheeseboard falls on the opposite end of the spectrum. Soaked with a buttery glaze and topped with chopped pecans, it's the type of sweet that will actually induce a physical reaction, as your body and teeth rejects what it knows is not good for it. Trader Joe's Grand Slam: I think I bought this snack because its color scheme reminded me of Boston, but its mix of caramel corn and nuts is far too sweet that it actually makes your teeth hurt. Also, no toy inside, so Cracker Jack has it beat. 2.0/5.0

Larabar Cashew Cooki Bar: Containing two ingredients (dates and cashews) this minimalist bar had a soft texture somewhere between a cookie and an energy bar. I found the flavor to be off, not because it was either too sweet or savory, since the flavors together simply did not taste particularly good. This is the first time I’ve had a Larabar, and given the experience, probably the last. 2.0/5.0
