Maine Root lemon lime soda: Lightly carbonated citrus soda that is on the sweet side. I prefer a more fizzy drink, but the overall flavor is not bad, though it's not distinctive enough to purchase again. 3.0/5.0

Berkeley Bowl Yogurt Pretzels: Berkeley Bowl's bulk section has a colorful assortment of yogurt-covered pretzels. I got a mix (the beauty of getting bulk), which are all priced at $7/lb. Clockwise from the top left is their peanut butter, blueberry, lemon, and raspberry pretzel. The fruit pretzels are all quite tart and acidic, and the peanut butter one has a more expected yet still satisfying flavor. They have a surprising amount of fat given that it's yogurt and not chocolate, and they're all sweet enough that I nev... (read more) 3.0/5.0

Blue Star Donuts Buttermilk Lemon Poppyseed Donut: Portland is pretty serious about donuts. On my latest visit, I saw a much higher percentage of commuters eating donuts for breakfast than I have witnessed in any other city. Lemoncocco Lemon Coconut Beverage: Creamy-colored non-carbonated soft drink similar in appearance to Calpico, Lemoncoco has a slightly sharper acidic lemon flavor mixed with coconut water. I like lemon, and I like coconut water, but together, it tastes muddled. I wanted to like it much more than I did. 3.0/5.0

Gjusta Lemon Cake: This slice of lemon cake from Gjusta in LA is thickly sliced and has a decently tart flavor. Texturally, though, it eats a bit dry. In the landscape of lemon desserts, this one falls somewhere in the middle - not bad, but not particularly notable. 3.0/5.0

Ample Hills Creamery Lemon ginger sorbet and Snap, Mallow, Pop ice cream: Family friendly ice cream shop Ample Hills Creamery is probably as Brooklyn as an ice cream store can get. The flavors are completely made in-house, hand-drawn illustrations act as signage, and flavors like “gooey gooey butter cake” and “Nonna d’s oatmeal lace” hearken back to an extremely classic American childhood that I can only imagine those that had cookie jars in their kitchens may have experienced. AKA this is a very white-person ice cream shop (not to denigrate - just stating the f... (read more) 3.0/5.0
