Cones cantaloupe gelato: Cones is a small ice cream shop on Bleeker St. in the West Village specializing in house-made flavors both classic and unique. The cantaloupe sorbet was superb, with a particularly concentrated melon flavor that still felt light and refreshing. Had small bits of fresh fruit. Perfect amount of sugar. Divino Apulian peach gelato: The cubed package contains a palm-sized peach filled with gelato on the inside. After waiting about 10 minutes for the dessert to defrost, you separate the halves of the fruit and can scoop out the gelato with an included miniature plastic shovel. The gelato is very good, with a fresh, concentrated peach flavor. The peach itself is slightly tart and not very sweet, but eaten together with the gelato, the entire dessert is well balanced. Divino Roman kiwi gelato: Gelato served between two halves of a frozen kiwi, which can be eaten skin and all. Great quality gelato that's tangy, tart, and just sweet enough. Wait about 15 minutes for the kiwi fruit to be soft enough to eat, but wait too long, and the liquid seeps through the thin kiwi membrane. 4.0/5.0

Dolce Cucumber mint and lemon gelato: Surprisingly good gelato from a small shop in Red Hook. Texture is excellent. Cucumber mint was refreshingly clean, and lemon was tart and sharp. Pure and concentrated flavors. Out of the way, but if you’re in the area, Dolce is definitely worth a stop. 4.0/5.0

Family Mart Melon Gelato Frappe: I was perusing the offering at the Japanese convenience store Family Mart and found a selection of frozen "drinks," or frappes. They have a bunch of different flavors, including strawberry, peach, and banana.
